New Stargate tonight

Hi folks. Can someone update me on the stargate universe? I used to watch it regularly on Saturday evenings then it seemed to fall off the face of the planet. Too bad too as it was getting quite enjoyable. I think the last events that I left off at included some sort of gould meeting on a space station, and a stand off between one of their ships and an asgard ship. But then again I also remember Daniel dying and becoming a higher being (hanging out with Cordelia no doubt.) So in other words, I lost track of where I ended off. What all has happened in the last season or two? And whats this about a spinoff?

Ah, that was the end of season 5. After that it moved from Showtime to Sci-Fi (Showtime cancelled it).

SEASON SIX HIGHLIGHTS

Following the tragic loss of Daniel Jackson, Colonel Jack O'Neill and SG-1 are forced to find a new member for the team. After several candidates who failed to live up to the standards of the SGC's flagship unit, alien refugee Jonas Quinn makes his case for joining the team. O'Neill is reluctant at first, but Jonas quickly proves himself as a valuable member of the team.
With the aide of technology created by the Ancients, of which he has mysteriously come into possession, Anubis has become the most powerful Goa'uld in the galaxy. He even uses a powerful device to try and destroy Earth. The Stargate is lost as disaster is narrowly averted, and the United States must purchase Earth's other Stargate from Russia to continue operating the SGC.

After being infected with an unknown pathogen, Colonel O'Neill is forced to receive a Tok'ra symbiote to save his life. But when Kanan, the Tok'ra, takes Jack on a solo mission to save the woman he loves -- a slave of Baal -- Jack is taken captive and tortured. Kanan leaves him, and Baal kills Jack over and over, reviving him in a sarcophagus. His ascended friend, Daniel Jackson, appears to try and offer him a way out.

A security breach puts Earth's first ship capable of interstellar travel -- the X-303, or "Prometheus" -- into the hands of rogue N.I.D. operatives. The team recovers the ship (killing Colonel Simmons and Adrian Conrad in the process), and are immediately enlisted by the Asgard to deal with the Replicators. The techno-bugs have evolved into humanoids, capable of invading SG-1's memories with a single touch. But they are defeated, for now, when the team activates an Asgard time-dilation device that traps them.

When other nations on Earth begin to doubt the United States' frequent cover stories for alien attacks, General Hammond is forced to disclose the existence of the Stargate and the Goa'uld to other world powers, including China, Great Britain, and France.

Teal'c and Bra'tac are nearly killed when the Goa'uld wipe out a faction of rebel Jaffa, leaving them both without larval symbiotes. Instead, they are now kept alive by tretonin, a drug originally developed by the Pangarans, from ground-up Goa'uld symbiotes.

Finally, Daniel Jackson returns to help his friends defend the planet Abydos from Anubis. Daniel agrees to give the Goa'uld what he's searching for, in exchange for Abydos' protection -- and so that SG-1 can return safely to Earth with a tablet found in the pyramid on Abydos, describing a lost city filled with the Ancients' technology. This, he believes, is the key to Anubis' final defeat.

But in the process, he also learns that the ascended beings he has joined are the Ancients, the original builders of the Stargates! Moreover, Anubis himself once found a way to ascend; but the others didn't want him, and tried to force him to descend again. They couldn't do it, at least not all the way, leaving Anubis stuck somewhere between ascension and a physical form. It explains his proficiency with Ancient technology, and his rapid rise to power among the System Lords (who, rallied by Yu, have since turned against him).

Anubis renegs on the deal, and destroys Abydos -- but Oma Desala, another ascended being, saves the people by helping them to ascend. SG-1 returns home, not knowing what Daniel's final fate will be -- but knowing that they must find the lost city of the Ancients.

Thanks for that. Sounds like quite the season. I wonder if its actually playing on any local stations. We don't get sci fi channel in Canada.. well in Calgary atleast. :(
