Rule 1: Make a character that seems fun to play.

Rule 2: Within the constraints of Rule 1, make a character that does not do the same things in the same way as another character. Ideally, among all the players you should cover the four basic roles - defender, striker, controller and leader.

Shardmind is a good race for wizards, since you get a bonus to Int. Your second bonus can be Wis or Cha. If you choose Cha, look at the illusionist powers in Arcane Power (if you have access to that book); if Wis, look at powers that cause "save ends" effects, and the Orb of Imposition implement feature (and look at the awesomeness of your Thunderwave with a high WIS!)

Shardmind also works very well for psions of any flavor; it seems to be the race that was designed for that class.

An Int-Cha shardmind is likely to be hypnotic and glittery - although you look totally alien, you inspire curiosity and wonder rather than fear. An Int-Wis shardmind may be quiet and thoughtful, with a deep connection to the earth or to the planes.

k thank you for that input.

we have a dragon born warlord in the party but he may change. and we have 2 strikes a ranger human that uses 2 swords. and a ranger human that is an archer. i like the wizard and psion they want me to be a wizard and i know a eladrin is a better wizard bc i prefer to be a war wizard but i just love the shardminds any builds out there?

When I started off making 4Ed PCs, I chose a race, then a couple of classes to consider, then simply looked at the powers and how they related to the stat bonuses from the race...just to get a feel for the game's mechanics. After a few prototypes, I returned to my usual PC gen method: concept first, then find the mechanics to support it.

On Puget Sound has given you a good inside look at the barebones of a Shardmind wizard. Enough, at least, to do what I did.

If you look at the powers, you'll see what spells work best for an Int/Cha Shardmind wizard or an Int/Wis Shardmind wizard. You'll also notice some powers work like a combo, attacking the same aspect of a foe's defenses while inducing conditions that reduce those defenses...or that may synergize with your allies' powers. For example, a spell that negatively affects a foe's AC will increase the odds of your strikers hitting and doing lots of damage; a spell that creates areas of effect that inflict conditions upon those within them can be nasty when party leaders shift foes into them.

The same goes for Psions.

i got a few more nooby questions...

how do i loot bodies and when do i and how do i look for secret openings how do i open them when do i open them? how many chances do i get

You just announce what are you doing. Outside of combat the structure isn't as rigid. You just say "I loot the bodies!" or "I search for secret doors!" The GM will usually just give you one chance to search for secret doors but if one is there they will probably say you find them. Don't bother looking more than once. Remember in a story, if it's supposed to happen it will.
