New to the area: DC

You'll have to travel a bit, but the Game Parlor in Chantilly is very good. Sadly, it is far off the metro. You'll really need a car, a cab will be too expensive.

There's a sci-fi store in Georgetown, but they don't have table games and because its Georgetown the prices are a little high.

Anyway....

Welcome to the area!

Incidentally, they won't be able to help out with gaming, cards, or RPGs, but check out the Washington Post entertainment staff's weekly Q&A on Thrusdays: http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/zforum/03/r_entertainment_081403.htm They focus more on the bar/club/activity/arts scenes, but if you're new to the area you might want to know what's out there.

For RPGs your best bet might be to post some flyers around the local universities. I truly do not know of a FLGS in the city proper. Sorry man.

Game Parlor is FAR, FAR, FAR from any metro. You need a car. Try Dream Wizards instead. It is in Rockville and is metro accessible (with a little walk) from the White Flint metro stop on the Red Line. (It is just down the street from White Flint Mall.)

Check their website. They have a map with directions from the metro.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any game stores in DC itself. Dream Wizards is the only one I know of that can credibly call itself metro accessible. It is also a very good store with a good crowd.

There is also a WoTC store in the Pentagon City (Pentagon City Metro stop) mall and another in Springfield Mall (Franconia-Springfield Metros stop). Both are right on the metro. Dream Wizards is a better choice but you can try them out.

I forgot to ask in my previous post. Where in the DC area are you located? Are you in the District itself or "greater metro area"?

i used to shop at Hobby Works in Laurel, MD

or GamesWorkShop in College Park...
o access
but i'm guessing they both went belly up. that was back in the early 80's.

Hobby Works is still there, but they've fallen out of favor with me since they have taken to shrink wraping thier books....I say HUMNBUG to that. It used to be on my list of fave's in the area.

On topic I have a game in Columbia MD and we are in need of a player. Its not not metro accessable but it is within about two miles from a park and ride for the metro rail system (I think Dorsey Run STN). I don't think it'd be that hard for me to pick you up.

A lot of work for a game, but as a last resort ok. See what you can find local first is my recommendation but if you have no luck and are OK with a hour or so commute to game you can give us a try.

Our web sight is the .plothooks.org follow the Freedom for Mir link. One of my players has a Forgotten Realms game in Silver Springs....don't know how opern it is though.

Game Parlor shrink-wraps their books too. It irritates me to no end and that is why I don't recommend them as highly as Dream Wizards. They will freely open one up for you if you ask but I personally hate having to ask. On the other hand it cuts down on impulse buys (good for me, bad for them).

I was new to the area about a year ago and in my search for a new gaming group, I decided to post in ENWorld. That was a great decision as my new group is very nice and pretty close to where I live in Springfield.

Still there, still a great place where they remember their regular customers, but unfortunately they've really cut back on the gaming supplies over the years. Looks to be a really good place for models/rc stuff these days.

Dreamwizards in Rockville, MD

Definitely a reasonable distance from the White Flint Metro. They really have a good selection, plus they have a big table area and run lots of CCG/40K games. I've never felt like they cared in the slightest about my business, however.

Welcome to D.C.!

Not much in the way of gaming stores, although there is the Compleat Strategist generally has a decent selection. It's a 5-minute bus ride from the East Falls Church Metro stop. Game Parlor is pretty much impossible to get too, although I have friends out that way and we go there every once in a while. Don't much care for it -- I hate shrink-wrapping.

If you find yourself in need of a game, my group will be starting up a new campaign in a couple of weeks. I think I'll be taking a break from DM'ing this one, so it will be a 'virgin' DM.

Really? They've always been quite helpful and nice to me. Hmmm...maybe it's the fact I've been a customer for over 20 years. :)

Yeh, Dream Wizards and the Strategist are pretty good. I still miss Fantasy Forum and Roy's Hobbies/Trains, Planes & Games, meself.
