New Worlds to Explore

First Post
Just thought it was time to start a new thread, since we're talking about alternatives to PoA and Lodor.

I've been dabbling online with The Land of Rykaria

This world was created for users to be able to take a bare-bones persistant world and add their own content to it. It has the bare essentials for any persistant world. Emote Wand, Portal System, Guilds, Quests, persistant enemies, npcs, treasures, etc. Open Ended areas, customized environmental effects and sounds. Rest restrictions, altered spells to benefit a PW multiplayer server, and a level 40 avatar system. Avatars are the ultimate goal for the level 40 player to shoot for. They are more powerful than any regular level 40 character.
I'd add it has a pretty nice tradeskill system too. Seems low level friendly, but there are benefits to being in a party.

Don't know how much DM/builder work is required.

Online I think one server is called "0 ' Rykaria" See: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/data/1080496977000.shtml

I noticed in a thread elsewhere that Chainmail beta 3 is suposed to be more stable since bioware came out with patch 1.65.

Anyway in another thread I mentioned a couple ideas for other mods I was wondering about. I will put it here also to keep it on topic.
Ok here is my suggestion for what to try next. Im really hoping that Chainmail will work out eventualy...

Have we tried looking at Seviss Isle ver.4b yet? its the world that chainmail is based on. Is it stable? might be worth trying...

Also did we ever give The Land Of Nordock a test? I know a couple folks said they had tried it in other places... but I dont recall trying it. Is it stable? Can our exsisting chars be played in it? Might be worth a shot for all to try...

Main thing id like to see is be able to play existing chars as well as new ones we might want to make.

Any thoughts on these PW's? Id like to have a look at them.

Peace

We used Seviss Isles 4b a while back, Chaz. In fact, I remember seeing you on the server. Discarded it because nobody liked it - complained it was empty, nothing to do, and very, very, very laggy. And then CHAINMAIL came out a couple of months later, and proved to be an improvement - but not much of an improvement.

Nordock is stable, but was very unpopular when I suggested it here a while back. I've never tried it myself, though, so I have no opinion either way.

On Rykaria - looks like you need to do a lot of work to get it playable, though. It says it's a "bare bones world" designed for adding content to.

Ahh, could be. I've only tried a version running already - it has lots in it, but then someone may have done all that development. Haven't made the leapt to DM yet so I'm not up on what goes into the mods that you download.

Nordock can't be that bad, I'll have to give it a try over the holidays.

Ok I spent a little time with the 3 PW's mentioned above...

Nordock > has a lot to look at... but it runs slow even on my own computer.

Rykaria > has a good number of places to look at. But it has a very unfinished feel to it. In some places the areas are very linear, you go from one map place to the next in the same direction and then can go no further and have to double back several maps to go soemplace else. Has a good base for building though I think. Lots of loot just strewn around. Monsters didnt scale ability to level of char either to well.

Seviss Isle > Ok I spent a little more time on this one than the others simply because it was funner to play. Lots of areas, and because its the MOD Chainmail is based on some of the locals are the same. It seemed stable, ran fine. Was plenty for a low level and high lev char both to do. Found magic in shops up to lev +2 or so I think... Monsters seemed to scale much better than the other two based on level. Epic char had epic critters spawning on him and even better the other monsters(even some that gav only 1 xp per) were tougher to fight and took time to kill. Seemed to be plenty of woods/caves/crypts etc to see.

Overall my vote is to give seviss Isle4b a try. It allowed any lev char and worked out ok for them. It wasnt a pushover for a new char... but wasnt impossible either. More importantly since its very much like Chainmail it will be an easy path of adaptation to switch over later to chainmail from this PW I believe. And since most players have agrred that chainmail will be the PW of choice once its working....

Seviss gets my vote to at least give it a chance. And as a DM I can see many possibilitys for adding some personal spice into the mix for players.

Peace

Chaz, we tried it! Ages ago! Don't you remember? You were on the server. Check back through the older threads in this forum for the long, long discussions about its failings.

That's how we found out about Chainmail. We gave up on Seviss, and decided to wait and see what Chainmail was like.

The main problem was the most horrendous lag ever. It really wasn't an optimised module. Chainmail was a vast improvement over that, and even it was pretty laggy.
