News about "Wizard´s First Rule" by Sam Rami

Wizard's First Rule, while not a bastion of originality, was a book I really enjoyed. The sword, the double-edged nature of magic, and the world as presented were very interesting.

The rest of the series is absolute crap.

Let's hope they know when to stop.

I imagine since they said it is a "syndicated program" they will try to get onto channels like ABC, CBS, etc. So probably will be majorly turned down in extremeity.

But, you got Song of Fire and Ice to look forward to on HBO.
Sydicated shows don't end up on network TV. It will be like the days of Star Trek:TNG or Xena where some station in your local market will carry the show. In one market it might end up on an ABC station, but an NBC station in another market, and an independent station in some other market.

I assume they will be cutting out most of the really dark and nasty stuff. The Mord Sith will probably be pulled back to your "run of the mill" torturers like you get on 24, but they happen to all be female and wear tight leather outfits. Or they might even gloss over that aspect and just focus on the time after Richard becomes Lord Rahl and they become his bodyguards.

What I will be more interested to see is if they also cut down on the overbearing, repetetive, preachy tone the books took as they progressed. That to me had more to do with the decline of the series than the S&M brutality aspects.

If that's the case, it probably won't be turned down so much as totally different from the books.

Which is fine; the TV series could end up being better than the books.

If it's anything like most other TV adaption of books it will barely look like the pages it comes from. So, no worries about them knowing when to stop as that won't matter.

I'm sorry, but the idea of someone in a medieval setting outlawing the use of fire is one of the stupidest plot points I've ever seen in a work of fiction. That was what made me decide not to waste any more of my time with the book, or the series.

Just my opinion.
