There were kids that looked like this when I went to high school. We called them "goths". They liked to listen to that "noise" I think the kids called Rock N Roll... I guess Marilyn Manson must play a lot of online video games too, huh?
Heh. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I could never call Marilyn Manson music as "rock 'n roll." KISS, yes. Twisted Sisters, yes. Marilyn, no.
Then again, I have as much dislike of Manson than the average joe have a dislike for N'SYNC.
This cracks me up. So are they saying that the people he is playing with are not real? That they don't live in the real world? Is the AI that advanced that he is really teaming up with computer controlled characters and he *thinks* they are real people?
There are those of us who sometimes get immersed into the game and become whatever "avatar" we created in cyberspace as a form of escapism, but we have this awareness switch that tells us it is just a game or a temporary escape from the drudgery of real life. IOW, we know our limit.
Unfortunately, there are others who don't have that kind of control or "off switch." Sometimes they don't want to return to real life. It becomes an addiction.
General question... If you make a "date" (so to speak) to meet a friend online, whether it is on a game or a chat program, but you don't show up, how is that any different than making a "date" to meet at the mall and not showing up (other than the travel time involved)? The principles are the same.
True, but how would you react afterward? If you get stood up, what do you do?
Another thing that really gets me is when people say that meeting people on the internet is dangerous. That you never know who you are meeting. How is this any different than meeting someone at the mall, or the park, or a bar? People can lie about who they are at these places just as they can on the internet.
At least you see the person before you decide to converse with someone, rather than a name or username.
The internet community, like any physical community, does have its share of good and bad. The best thing we can do is educate ourselves and in the case of minors supervise them.
