I voted for Dark Heart of Space (as well as others) assuming that it was something like ICE's Dark Space -- written by Monte Cook.

My choice was a toss up between a setting with a mix of worlds (such as what was beautifully done in the 2nd World Sourcebook) or one of my all time favorite campaign settings ... Dark Space.

So in the end I choose to follow the lead of the person who wrote the wonderful 2nd World Sourcebook ... and went with the Dark Heart of Space.

Its funny how things work out sometimes.

Dark*Matter seems like such an obvious choice to me: a setting that can reasonably combine the supernatural and superscience, aliens and monsters, but most importantly, is distinct from Dungeons and Dragons, a truly Modern setting rather than a marketing ploy.

Another vote here for Dark*Matter.

Saw the thing they did in Dragon for it about a year ago ( before they nixed polyherdron). Looked pretty creepy.

A mecha setting that doesn't emulate any existing animes, or Battletech (I'm looking at you, Mecha Crusade).
Ironically, I somehow managed to start creating such a setting while writing a bunch of Pick 'n' Mix mechs (see my sig). It was completely by accident, I swear... the more I worked to put my creations into context, the more ideas I got for a full setting.

Urban Combat Mecha is a future setting where half the planet has become urbanized. Nation-state governments have collapsed into thousands of "local governments" who have their hands full just meeting the basic infrastructure needs (food, water, proper housing, etc). Being able to recruit, train, equip, and field a military proved far too expensive for many of them; in most cases, it was cheaper to hire mercenaries. There are many "hot zones" where merc units battle it out among the city streets for control of resources, territory, people, or just to keep the gears of industry grinding. Mechs have proven to be one of the most effective platforms for combat in the urban environment; most merc units field mech units, and most military hardware manufactures sell mech frames and equipment.

There are two types of people in this world: squishies and mercs. You wanna make something of yourself? Sign on with a merc unit and show the world what you got.

More details about the Urban Combat Mecha setting will probably appear in MODERNIZED. You can get an idea of the setting's flavour in the PnM mechs linked in my sig. More info will come.

Don't ya hate when they do that. Go and throw a snippet of something cool out there and then ya got to wait to see more...Sheesh!
