Out of alphabetical order, but it is in there. By the way, Gansk, ignore this morning's E-mail.

The swarm flees the arena after being breathed on twice.

A red-furred gorilla runs into the arena, and runs back out after being breathed on.

A woman made out of marble and wielding a bastard sword comes into the arena and gets breathed on repeatedly until destroyed after ten rounds. The dragon can breathe next round.

Gansk, I need to know if the next creature that enters at the end of round 359 can burrow. Thanks.

Greybar, please give me the dragon's Z coordinate. Thanks.

Let's see - Medium size dragon with a line attack is 60", so I'd place the dragon cruising at 60" up. Want to call it 60N60E60Z for an easy starting point?

OK, although that could change depending on what comes into the arena. If the creature on the ground is very fast, the dragon might have to come down lower to breathe because getting directly over might be difficult.

A dinosaur comes in and flees after being breathed on.

A 10 foot square carpet of glittering, crystalline beetles swarms into the arena to 60N60E.

Round 363

The dragon breathes lightning at the swarm, inflicting 12 points of electrical damage (Ref save 19). The beetles have 55 HP remaining. The dragon can breathe again in round 365, and knows nothing about its opponent.

The beetles burrow into the ground. What's next, dragon?

Wavelette the oceanus dragon swings around, looking for any signs of motion during Round 364. On Round 365, she settles down on top of the hole they opened into the ground, puts her mouth right up to the hole and attempts to blast the earth open with lightning at that point.

OOC - So I figure if they're only a square or two in, maybe that's something, but I'll leave the mechanical interp to the GMs. :)

The beetles do not come back in round 364.

There is no hole in the ground. Unless noted otherwise, burrowing creatures do not leave a hole.

Should I interpret Wavelette's action as landing, while readying a breath should the beetles emerge?

Yeah, let's go with that then. If they don't re-emerge, then fine its a draw.

Are there any rules, or even suggestions, for how a non-burrowing creature might remove perfectly good earth by sheer damaging power? I remember seeing a play-by-post fight in which an incorporeal undead was hiding inside of a wall and ducking out to attack. The GM let the opponent do damage to the wall enough to "reveal" the undead, then attack the undead themselves. (High level fight, first couple attacks shattered the walls, following attacks shattered the undead). Not too much of an issue here, since Wavelette can't do enough damage to "destroy" a square of earth and then follow-up and attack the bettles themselves before they burrow away...

(edit: in other words, what would the hardness/hp of a cube of earth be? :) )

OOC: There aren't any rules of that sort, and I've never heard of any for the ground. I'd treat solid ground like a wall, and I'd treat dirt not as damage but by displacement -- somehow. You'd need to develop rules for it, but in no way would I think it could ever match even the slowest burrowing creature.

Round 365

The beetles come back up to 60N60E. Wavelette breathes much more effectively this time, inflicting (7 Ref save) 39 points of electrical damage. Wavelette also tires to bite with her AoO as the beetles enter her space, but does not penetrate their carapaces (rolled 16). The beetles have 16 HP remaining. Wavelette can breathe in round 367.

The beetle bite Wavelette for 3 points of damage, plus an additional 6 points of acid damage. Wavelette has 86 HP remaining. Wavelette is revolted by the beetles crawling all over her (rolled 14 Fort save), so can only take one move action per round until further notification.
