NHL: Preseason!

22 Penalties in each of those games.

I hope the officials don't blink on this. They need to keep this up until the clutching and grabbing stops, but every time a team loses in a 22 penatly game, they are going to bitch about the officiating.

Considering who was in each lineup, I think the Flames did fairly well against the Oil.

I know it's just preseason, but that was Carolina, a pretty lackluster team, that just deee-stroyed Washington. It's going to be a long season in D.C.

Boucher with a groin injury, eh? Ouch, he's probably out for at least a couple months. Good to know, my pool draft goes tomorrow afternoon.

From what I heard during intermission, there's an "NHL standard" that each ref needs to live up to. If they get away from the standard, there's DVDs they can watch on how to call the game correctly.

So it looks like they've spelled out in specific terms how the game is to be called, and that it's not open to interpretation or allowed leeway.

As for coaches and GMs bitching, the refs work for the NHL not any individual team, so they'd better listen to Colin Campbell and co., not Pat Quinn.

Why do they have so many games on the roster starting at 10:30pm???

Those are all eastern times for west coast games. 7:30 your time TB :)

Yea, that is excesive, but it has to happen. Players will have to learn that the clutch and grab BS WILL be called. I doubt that there will be much complaining about the amount of penalties. All parties involved know that the game is changing.

I was listening to a National afternoon radio program yesterday, and the host, Charles Adler, was talking to a sports reporter out of Alberta (sorry, I missed the guy's name). The reporter was going on about how the game couldn't get any worse, and the NHL was forced to change the way the game is played. What he said next surprised me. He stated that if the NHL allowed it's officials to get away with not calling the game, the way they've promised, then he and his colleagues in the media, have agreed to "bury the NHL" in print, radio and television.

I thought that was pretty funny.

Concur completely. It's something college hockey starts out doing every year, but by January, the whistles start to be put away.

It's all about sustained consistency.

Nothing said on Adler Online suprises me anymore. :)

Flames continue pre-season in Chicago

The Calgary Flames play their second pre-season game tonight when they face off against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.

Coming off a 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers last night, the Flames will most likely ice a stronger lineup than the one the Oilers faced.

GM and coach Darryl Sutter elected to sit Jarome Iginla, Daymond Langkow, Tony Amonte, Roman Hamrlik, Miikka Kiprusoff and a host of others Friday but they should see action in today's game.

What if, as has happened before, Colin Campbell (and Gary f'n bettman) are listening to--your example--Pat Quinn?

It's been that way in the NHL since the mid-90-'s now.

Best of Intentions in November=Back to Clutch-and-Grab in January.
