Night Below Gallery Released

Dread Wraith : could've used a few of these in Shackled City. Made due with some large sized normal wraiths and placed 'em in the center.

Cerebrilith: He's magnificently ugly.

Brass Golem : Might be useful for City of Brass or something.

Berserk Flesh Golem: Looking good.

Frost Giant Jarl: Like the sword.

Giant Eagle: Be very useful for recreating certain large battles.

Kuo-Toa Hunter: Man, I could've used a ton of these suckers in my Shackled City campaign.

Mind Flayer Lich: Can never have enough Mind Flayers.

Shadow: Holy cow! An old favorite that's actually getting a model! Stop the presses.

Large Chaos Beast: He's another ugly that'll be useful for various grunt work.

Greater Basilisk: Terrible paint job but like the figure.

Large Shadow Dragon: Do people seriously like this? It looks like a cross between a black and silver dragon. Just curious about what's appealing here.

Trained Carrion Crawler: I see plates on the back. Is that supposed to be a saddle?

Assassin: This is probably the only humanoid figure I like because you can never have enough black clad bad guys.

Shadowbane Inquisitor: Very disappointed in this one. They should've went with white amror like the illustration. (*Unless I'm completely misremembering.)

July 5th I think.

Isn't it usually a Friday? In that case it would be July 6th.

Given that the release events are that weekend, I'm almost sure that's when it is. The stores can run it any day between July 6th and Jul8th.

From the SRD: "In some cases, the grim silhouette of a wraith might appear armored or outfitted with weapons. This appearance does not affect the creature’s AC or combat abilities but only reflects the shape it had in life."

So it's because that particular dread wraith carried a sword around when it was alive.

But "because it looks cool!" works for me too ;)

And, come to think of it, I think that the Harbinger wraith also carried a sword. (I'd get up and check, but I'm currently pinned by my cat.)

I must have missed that when I checked the SRD. It doesn't bother me as much now.

Thanks for that Echohawk. :D

Don't listen to him children, he's a bad, bad man. (Echohawk "helped" me start my own addiction to plasticrack. I wouldn't be where I am today, broke and kidneyless, without him. Thanks Echohawk! ;) :D )
One does one's best

Well, I've calculated the cost of all the minis I've prepurchased on ebay, and it's possible that I could have come out ahead by just buying a complete one-of-everything set. It's close anyway, and that's a testament to how many individual pieces in this set are desirable.

The claw gnoll fighters are IMO quite obviously intended to serve as werewolves, and they're a lot scarier-looking in that capacity than kitty-cat-looking once we got.

I wasn't going to get a dire tiger, but I really like the sculpt. It looks grrrrrreat!.

Kua-toas at last! Get'em while you can!

If my ebay searches were any inidcator, I think the shadows are going to be the hard-to-get uncommon in this set (as stirges and bats were previously).

No idea why we got another otyugh. The one I've got is great...and never used, because an otyugh isn't a great monster to fight.

Lots of interesting pieces for use as PC's. I like colorful characters like the hierophant and wild mage. I wish they would have gotten the red touches on the assassin right, and that they would have kept his face partially covered. That's one great illo in the DMG.

Aspect of Loviatar? Who's gonna use that? Gimme an aspect of Gruumsh any day!

The old otyugh looks much better than this one IMO, so I don't know why they bothered.

I've used Otyugh's a few times, but only about 1/3rd of the encounters end up with combat. A couple times the otyugh's have been avoided entirely, and a couple times they were bargained with.

The idea behind a lot of the Night Below monsters was to get some of the difficult to find classics back out there. The original otyugh was from Giants of Legend. I've only seen one place selling Giants of Legend packs, and they're $50 each. I was lucky enough to pay $8 for my original otyugh, but as the cheaper places lose inventory on those older figures, folks new to DDM will have no choice but to pay $20 on Ebay or $40 from Paizo.

The Shadowbane Inquisitor's armor looks whiter in the book, and as I recall, they may have even described it as "bone-white" in the flavor text.

Loviatar is the Goddess of Pain and Torture basically. Her followers are sadists and masochists.

And at least one Frenchman who thought she was the Goddess of Bread and Turtles and realized- too late!- that he misread the temple brochure... :)

Then he gave a gallic shrug and continued to go to services...
