Went to see Kung Fu Hustle yesterday and saw a preview for this movie that got my attention. I thought it said it was part of a trilogy. Anybody know more about this movie?

My brother works at Fox, and has done post-production on the first movie, IIRC. It's at trilogy of movies that are being made in Russia - I think they're already finishing the second one. He said he liked the first one, so I'm really looking forward to it.

This film has a good look (seen it last year.) The story, about a group of protectors that can affect reality, unbeknownst to the lot of the world, to keep the balance of good and evil on level grounds. Of course, they are countered by the DayWatch (the second film is named this, and it out soon on dvd in russia.) who represent the evil side of things. The Nightwatch goes about trying to protect a particular boy who just may be the foretold messiah-like figure that they have been waiting for.

As I said, it had a good look, but it sort of bogs down towards the end. Might look pretty nice on a big screen though, and I would probably see it again to give it anothr chance.

The DayWatch trailer is online, but on a russian site. If I find it again, I will post the link...

I saw it in Russia last year.

This film was a 'big release' here and is part of a growing popularity of domestic film in Russia. The film has a popular music sountrack with several big hits.

It is set in Moscow, and the main characters are vampire hunters (the Night Watch) and the the opposing side (the day watch). It has a lot of surreal scenes. It might be a bit hard to follow at times. Also, being set in Moscow it won't have any familiar locations to most viewers.

Can't remmeber much more detail. The acting didn't strike me as particularly good or bad. The plot was pretty straightforward

It looks like a pretty good film from the trailer, some people commented it may seem a bit like modern fantasy games like Mage: the Ascension or even WotC's Urban Arcana. Which makes me wonder if modern fantasy going to be the next thing for the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

As far as familiar locations I thought I saw the Kremlin in the background, and that's sort of a familiar location for most viewers...
