Night's Plutonian Shore - Chapter 1: Rats in a Cage [Midnight]

Kryt Skullbash : Orc Fighter

As the halfling squeezes out of the cage, Kryt moves to the opposite side of the cage and begins watching the goblins' activities. If it looks like they are going to head in the direction of the halfling, then he will try and distract them.

Sangrin the Elfling

Sangrin slips out also, taking the opportunity to hide in some nearby brush but keeping an eye out for Craig and also anyone who might have a key to the cage. The elfling figures that if he helps the captured people escape then he might stand a better chance of slipping away in the confusion. Sangrin will attempt to use a sleep spell on the loud Erenlander if he thinks he can get away with it without anyone noticing.

Gunter the Gnome

Gunter quickly glances around to see if he can hear or see any other foes (OOC: Spot and Listen checks) and then slips through the bars of the cage. Using the surrounding terrain and wagons as cover, he creeps until he is within the correct distance (OOC: Move Silently and Hide checks). He raises his hands and weaves the intangible stuff of the arcane around himself, projecting it towards Scaalix (OOC: Cast Charm Person). Once he feels it has taken effect, he softly calls to the goblin, trying not to wake his companion "Scaalix, my friend, I could use some help here".

The halfling sees nothing useful on the ground around him. Where once the ground here would have been green and vibrant, it is now mostly yellows and browns. As Craig sneaks toward the supply wagon he makes some noise stepping on dry leaves and grass.

There is no brush to hide in. Aside from the trees to the west, most of the terrain is rolling grasslands. Sangrin ducks down behind one of the wagon wheels, though, which offers some cover. Chanting as quietly as he can and gesturing, the elfling weaves together a sleep spell which he directs at the mouthy Erenlander. The man suddenly yawns and slumps against the cage he is in as do two men standing next to him.

"What happened to Koris?" someone asks, though not much above a whisper. No one is speaking too loudly, but the chattering has not abated. A few of them have also noticed the fireball in the sky and are pointing to it.

Gunter does not see anything other than the fireball flying toward the encampment. Peering at it, the gnome could swear that he sees a humanoid shape in the midst of the fire. Whatever it is will be here very shortly - within the next 10-20 seconds. Ignoring the object for a moment, he creeps between the wagons just close enough to cast his spell. Neither goblin notices the gnome.

Just as Gunter successfully casts his spell on Scaalix, the other goblin looks in the direction of Craig and says, "Who there?" His hand moves toward the short sword at his side. Kryt growls and makes some noise to distract the drunk goblin. Scaalix walks toward Gunter. "You could use drink," he says, holding up his aleskin. Kryt also notices something stirring in one of the small orc tents. Someone has woken up, presumably due to the noise of the incoming ball of fire which is getting louder and more piercing.

Craig

Craig curses under his breath as he makes his way to the supply wagon. There he searches for his weapon, keys and thieve's tools.

Sangrin

Sangrin keeps watching from the brush, covering Craig while also keeping an eye out at the problem in the sky everyone keeps whispering in fear about. The elfling considers fleeing in the growing confusion, but decides to stick with his original plan.

Kryt Skullbash : Orc Fighter

Kryt continues to watch but speaks in a soft whisper. "Be quick. Orc waking."

Taellis drifted back to his usual position all the while keeping his eyes on the Orcs and Goblins ready to make some sort of distraction, nothing big, perhaps just throw out a few more insults. Enough to catch thier attention but hopefully not enough to gather thier rage. That or bring to thier attention the giant ball of fire...

Gunter, Gnome Rogue

Gunter turns to his new goblin friend, trying to stay hidden as best he can. "Scaalix," he whispers, "try and calm the rest down, please. If everyone gets up they'll just put you to work doing something nasty again."

The goblin who noticed Craig looks toward Kryt as the burly orc growls, but then turns back to the halfling. "What you doing?" he cries out, drawing his sword and moving toward the supply wagon. Craig jumps into the supply wagon, throws back the hides covering everything and begins searching for his gear. Whether it is the disorganization of the wagon or the threat of the goblin or both, Craig does not find anything right away.

Scaalix looking like he would really like to avoid work hollers out to his watch partner. "Razm, we drink more. Come!" The goblin waves his waterskin in the air and gestures toward the fire.

Just then, an orc steps out of the tent that Kryt had seen motion in. It blinks for a second in the bright light of the sun, but then his eyes catch upon the commotion in the wagon and Razm advancing toward it, weapon drawn. He roars loudly and draws his own weapon, a nasty looking vardatch.

The blazing ball of flame in the sky is very close now and everyone can see that it the center of it seems to have some sort of humanoid shape.
