Nightwing bite + tranformation?

in the monster manual page 141 under nightshade (nightwing)
it lists for damage bite 2d6+13 + Tranformation

whats the tranformation? is this a type-o and ment to be magic drain and there is nothing in the errata.

I wondered this for quite some time too.

In the old resources that Nightwings are from (Mystara stuff), they essentially turn you into a dire bat. So I'd go with that.

There were some threads about this some time ago- several months iirc- and I statted the transformation ability out, but darned if I know exactly when it was or anything. Good luck finding it (they haven't come up in my game so I haven't needed to search it out or do a write up of it again).

This is what I did:

SA—Transformation (Su): Bite causes victim to be transformed (as polymorph other) into a dire bat loyal to the nightwing (Fortitude save DC 22 to resist).


The save is DC 22 from 10 + 1/2 HD + Cha modifier. If you think it ought to be more like poison in origin, it would be DC 18 (since the Con modifier is +0).
