There's nothing quite like telling a mid-level group they've just been owned by goblins.

The ninja IMC is underfolk who dual-wields kusari-game, IIRC the only official light reach weapon. Pleasantly enough, he sort of fell into a proper niche for this world; there's a race of secretive underground ninja-types who are supposed to have originated the funky Oriental weapons.
