They could always update the older games, if they have not retired them . I mean aren't the SNES Classic Games series (e.g., Pac-Man) GBA-compatible?
From what I hear, the DS will replace the GB line. Think of it as ... 3.5e.typo said:The DS looks very, very interesting...but I'm scratching my head over exactly WHY one should buy it. It looks to be marginal more powerful than a GBA, sure. But so will the not-too-far-off next GameBoy.
That depends on the game and what it offers. It can use the top screen as the main viewer while the bottom screen act as extra control "buttons," which is good for CRPGs or sports game (e.g., just touch the football formation thumbnail instead of moving the cursor with the control pad).typo said:The dual screens are..interesting, but confusing.
Well, I thought the same about computer vs. dedicated game console. It is a dedicated game device with a large, growing library of GBA games. Dedicated because the software developer have intimate knowledge of the device's hardware without having to worry if they have to offer patches to ensure that the software can be played in this graphic card or soundcard -- new or old -- in your PC which may be different from the next user's. It also accept GBA games so you don't have worry, unless you have old GB and GBC games. But, hey, it's not like you're still playing that old Nintendo Entertainment System.typo said:The whole package is just odd. Honestly, if they'd stuck some built-in PDA functions and (yeah, right) GSM phone capability in there, I'd be QUIVERING with anticipation. But this thing is simply a game device (and a strange one at that) that's compatible with current GB games, but probably not with the next GBA's, and seems to bank on a couple esoteric control options that I'm just not feeling.

Yeah, but they really don't need to be. Nintendo is the same way. Product branding and the Playstation name are almost as powerful as Coke or Xerox these days.mojo1701 said:Uh, yeah. But is it just me, or is Sony rarely original in their names?
Who cares? What is recognizable to the customers is their trademarked brand name.mojo1701 said:Uh, yeah. But is it just me, or is Sony rarely original in their names?

Meh. :\

More seriously, I expect both the DS and PSP to be niche products at best; Nintendo will realize the DS is a little too weird to be the successor to the GBA, and Sony will figure out that Nintendo owns the portable space. And in 2006 or so Nintendo will launch a more traditional successor to the GBA that's more powerful than the PSP and costs half as much.
Now quickly say that ten times.mojo1701 said:Sony's new portable-game-console-that-works-like-a-pda-but-takes-little-mini-discs-instead-and-is-designed-to-try-to-take-the-market-away-from-nintendo-man
