Nixies

Are there Nixie's in 4E yet? I have MM1 and MM2 and don't see them in there.

I'd really like to know if they've been officially covered in _Dragon_ or _Dungeon_. (I guess that just means DDI now. :-( Obviously I don't pay WotC for anything digital after having been burned badly since, well, ever.

If there is any good, serious coverage of the Nixie in homebrew rules I'm anxious to hear as well.

Frankly, after the Nixie being in D&D from OD&D through every Monster Manual/Compendium to 3.5, I'm a little stunned this staple aquatic creature wasn't in 4E MM1 let alone 4E MM2.

(For this matter, why are "nymph"s not found in either the MM1 or MM2 ToC or Index by Level?)

i don't really remember what nixie is but i imagine the nymph isn't in the mm because i doubt a nymph would make a decent fight
and only things you are going to fight are in the mm

Neither Nymphs, Nixies, Pixies, or Grigs are in the game yet.

Perhaps if they do a Feywild book it might be in there?

Nymphs would make good controllers I think. Blinding attack?

The 4e MM is more focused on giving the stats for monsters that PCs are actually likely to fight. Therefore, Good and unaligned monsters are less common in there than they once were, and aquatic creatures are far less common (since in previous editions aquatic creatures took up large amounts of space but saw very little actual play). since the Nixie falls in both these categories, they haven't received a monster writeup.

That doesn't mean that they don't exist, though. Just that 4e only gives combat stat blocks for things where combat is actually a likely scenario. I'd imagine most interaction with a nixie would be better handled through a skill challenge or raw roleplaying (nymph too, probably).

It really bothers me that the Monster Manuals are only for combat purposes. DnD shouldn't be just about combat. Taking out all the background info for monsters and removing those that you wouldn't do combat with altogether was a mistake. I suppose they can put a new book called Backgrounds and Fluff for us to buy in the future. Hopefully, you still have 3.5 books to turn to to find info on nixies and nymphs.

"They" didn't take out or remove anything, 4e was a clean slate that they have added to. Focus so far has seemed to be things that need stats to encounter in a fight. If you are not going to fight it, you need no stat block, and pre-4e fluff works just fine in most cases. This is why I *like* 4e. I don't have to have a metagaming nutcase interrupting the Nixie to point out that according to his MM, Nixies can't speak common.

Nixies speak, act, and smell how you want them to. If it comes to blows, then statblocks are much easier to adapt/create (even without the evil wotc corp. software, lol) than they once were, so be prepared with something simple.

Could we keep irrelevant 4e bashing and edition flamewars in other threads, where they belong, please?

I don't see how that is edition bashing. It is a fair statement. One I happen to disagree with, but a fair statement or concern to have.

@Zaran:
D&D ISN'T just "all about" combat, unless you make it out to be. It is really good at giving you ALL the information and rules you are going to need should combat arise. And it gives you room to insert your own fluff into the game.
