D&D 4E No evil gods in 4e?

From the people who perused the books at Thalmin's store.

There are 5 Alignments: Good, Lawful Good, Evil, Chaotic Evil, Unaligned. Among the gods I did not see any evil or CE listed.

Can this really be true?

Assuming for a second that it is, let's think about it.

Actually, I just can't wrap my head around that thought. Asmodeus, former angel who betrays and kills his master only to become god of the Nine Hells, is not Evil? WTF?

On the other hand, maybe he didn't find any evil gods in the PHB, because they were moved? I mean, by and large, players aren't supposed to be evil. So maybe the evil gods were moved to the DMG?

That I would like.

The list of gods floating around includes guys like Bane and Gruumsh, and the designers have specifically mentioned Bane as a god they put in (context being, they needed a "tyrants' god" but couldn't think of a name for him, so they used Bane as a placeholder, and in the end just went with that). So I'm sure there'll be evil gods, even if they don't get mentioned in the PHB.

its very possible evil gods are in the dmg, or maybe monster manual. it seems the phb is very player centric, and in most cases players dont need to know about evil gods and find out about them in the story. I know exceptions do occur, but ...

I think they will be there somewhere, look at the Excerpt for the Warlord it has:

Religion: Warlords favor martial gods such as Bahamut and Kord, and those who have a particular eye for strategy or leadership esteem Ioun or Erathis. Evil and unaligned warlords often worship Bane.

They better be there.

I've got a Tiefling Paladin of Gruumsh, A murderous wizard with delusions of omnipotency, a Dwarven Fighter dedicated to Might=Right, an amnesiac infernal-pact Warlock, an honest thief, an undecided cleric, and somebody who isn't sure of what they want yet.

My party is going to be.. anti-cohesive, I think. Oh well.

Evil Gods aren't in the PHB because it's assumed/recommended that characters will be non-Evil. They'll be in the DMG.

EDIT: That's my working assumption, anyhow.

Evil gods should be included.

But if they are in the DMG, I am perfectly fine with it. it Actually makes a lot of sense, that Player don´t get to look at possible story elements, and I consider Players chosing to worship eviel gods disruptive in a mainly good party.
