I find it difficult to believe that JK Rowling has issue with RPGs. She has wanted to get kids reading, using their imaginations etc. What better way than through a role-playing game?

I don't find it difficult to belive that JK Rowling might have an issue with RPGs. It isn't like a majority of the world has an accurate impression of what RPGs are. It's easy to have a problem with something you misunderstand.

Be that as it may - I would expect her to wait until her series is finished before revealing the secrets that you'd need to open up to an RPG.

I remember it had something to do with creative control, basically. Her world, her characters, her story, her power. Also, her secrets, which an RPG would have to reveal a lot of. Until she's done with it, she doesn't want anyone else messing with it.

That makes the most sense to me. :D

Isn't Harry Potter technically geared toward elementary and middle-school children? If that's the case, in my mind, elementary school children aren't quite developed to really understand RPGs (although they could play a supporting role in other's campaigns with a bit of guidance).

In a shadowrun/dungeons and dragons hybrid game I played a couple years ago, we were found ourselves let out of a planar portal in the middle of a hilly mountainous terrain. We saw a flying train and attempted to catch up with it to ask for directions. Fireballs and missles were launched at us, so we retaliated blowing up the train and killing all its inhabitiants. We scourered the moutain side we sent the train crashing into. Bodies were everywhere.

Children...

Do you know who was on the train...

Do ya?

That was an evil DM....
:] :] :] :]
send your old dm my best regards :p

Another possibility is that she knows if she does a game world, somebody will stat out Harry and Voldemort and then declare that their 11th level barbarian with a spiked chain would have taken them both easily.

You think it hasn't already happened? ;)

Hmm, no comment.
Hmm, I believe you have something to say, SKR. ;)

As for me, I really do not care nor have any opinion other than it is her right as HP creator and owner; Hasbro is merely a licensee.

Why question her motive? Should we question every fantasy and science fiction authors' motive for not porting their creations into RPGs? Or is it because Harry Potter is a hot commodity and in the current spotlight?

While I hope that they release a cool HP RPG someday, in the meantime Redhurst: Academy of Magic by Human Head Studios/Green Ronin will do in a pinch.

For a demo, check out the Redhurst web page at Human Head's website, it's full of free goodies. Check it out.
I dunno. You can promote an alternative til your blue in the face ... but like any fans of any known labels -- be it Star Wars, Buffy, or Harry Potter -- they simply want the officially labeled products.

Of course, I'm not discouraging you from promoting...

REDHURST
