I skimmed the previews, and will not be getting the book, as I cannot imagine it has much that I will need.

I'm sure some bits might be good, but I'm not that deep into 4E that I need to modify monsters, or do many of the things the DMG is telling a DM how to do. I rarely even open the DMGI. It was the same for me in 3.5 also. Other than looking at the experience tables (no longer necessary), and wealth by level guidelines (also no loner necessary) I never looked at the 3.5 DMG either.

I picked it up today on the way home from work, so I haven't had a chance to go through much of it yet.

I like the art for the most part, and I think the DM advice sections will be useful to me.

I was a little concerned when I read that some of the information is reprinted from DDI articles, but I'll withhold judgement on that until I've read through the book and see how they handled the DDI stuff. If it is a cut and paste job, then I'm going to be a little disappointed that I paid for the same article twice.(I'm already a DDI subscriber)

I'll check back in when I've had some more time to peruse.

These days, the new D&D books are so thoroughly described by the people who get them early, there's not much left to talk about when the official release finally happens.

I must have missed the talk about the DMG early. I saw one thread about Giants and DMGII, but where were the other threads talking about the DMGII? I did not even see much discussion on the previews.

I think the OP's point is valid, I'm just seeing a lot less discussion of 4E books than I saw of 3.x books in this forum.

Thats a shame, because I got such a thrill from it.I'm a 31 year DM vet and I got a ton of usefull info out of it,but then I like the templates.

Normally Im happy if I get to use 25% of something I buy in the RPG line.
This has got to be closer to 60-80% usefull!
