Character Creation Option: No Magic Items

This option is designed to allow players to be competitive with the normal level curve without using magic items. It is intended to allow DMs to run campaigns in which character power is not dependent on wealth, and where wealth is used solely or primarily for non-magical items.
If this character creation option is used, characters may not use any magic items. Instead, each level they can select one of the following benefits:

AC Boost: +1 to AC. This may be selected up to six times, and its effects stack. Once this is selected four times, the character’s armor is considered to be the first level of masterwork for purposes of armor AC bonus, and once this is selected six times, the character’s armor is considered to be the second level of masterwork for purposes of armor AC bonus. In order to select this item for the Nth time, the player must be at least level 5N-4.

Attack Boost: +1 to attack and damage rolls, and +1d6 to damage on criticals, with all powers that have the Weapon or Implement keywords. This may be selected up to six times, and its effects stack. In order to select this item for the Nth time, the player must be at least level 5N-4.

Defense Boost: +1 to Fortitude, Reflex, and Will defenses. This may be selected up to six times, and its effects stack. In order to select this item for the Nth time, the player must be at least level 5N-4.

Bonus Power: Select one encounter power that you do not know from either your own class or a class that you have a multiclass feat for. You may use this power as a daily power. This may be selected up to six times. In order to select this item for the Nth time, the player must be at least level 5N-4. Additionally, the Nth time you select this item, the level of the power you choose must be less than or equal to 5N-4.

Improved Critical: Increase the bonus critical damage dice given by your Attack Boost to d8s. This item may be selected up to three times. The second time you select this item, increase the damage dice to d10s, and the third time, increase it to d12s.

Power Recharge: This item may be selected up to six times. Each time you reach a milestone, roll a d6. If the result is less than or equal to the number of times you have selected this item, you may recharge one of your daily powers.

Stat Pump Boost: This item may only be selected during a level in which you receive a “+1 to two” stat pump. The stat pump is instead a “+1 to three”. This item may be selected once for each level in which you get a “+1 to two” stat pump.

Character Creation Option: Vow of Poverty

This is an option for characters who want to replicate the “Vow of Poverty” feat from 3.5e. If you select this option (it does not count as a feat) then you can only use a single weapon, a single implement, basic clothes, and nothing else (including armor), and you cannot own any property. If you find treasure you must give your share of it away, so no having all but one of the characters in a party take this option and give all the treasure to the other one! If you select this option, you get the following benefits in addition to the benefits under No Magic Items:

Armor Skin: Your devotion to your body has honed your skin to the point where it can deflect many blows. You may select one of the following abilities which mimic armor.

--------Natural Skin:
You gain an armor bonus equivalent to cloth armor (+0 initially, +1 for first masterwork level, +2 for second masterwork level). Additionally, you gain one bonus feat of your choice.

--------Leather Skin:
You gain an armor bonus equivalent to leather armor (+2 initially, +3 for first masterwork level, +4 for second masterwork level).

--------Iron Skin:
You gain an armor bonus equivalent to scale armor (+7 initially, +10 for first masterwork level, +13 for second masterwork level). To select this ability, you must be proficient with at least one type of heavy armor. This counts as heavy armor, but does not impose armor check or speed penalties.

(Note that you access the “masterwork levels” for these abilities by using the AC Boost as described above.)

Bonus Skill Feat:
By shunning the material world, you have had more time to spend on your skills. You may select either Skill Training, Skill Focus, or Jack of All Trades as a bonus feat.
