No Second Season For Blade

Yeah, I heard about this. Too bad. I quite liked the show, especially as we found out more things about the vampire community and the other supporting characters. The subplot with Krista and her mother was... pretty amazing.

I actually found the show interesting and was probably one of the few people to watch it all the way through. I agree it coulda used more fight scenes, but not with Sticky as Blade. They needed someone who actually knew how to fight for that role...

Well, they pretty much had to change something to make this a viable TV series - either add other characters, or change Blade significantly.

Let's face it - Blade is not an especially interesting character. He kills things. He hates vampires. He scowls a lot as he injects himself with serum, and spends a lot of time doing pseudo-Zen meditation in front of his pseudo-katana. He has no family, virtually no friends, and no loved ones. He's got no weaknesses to speak of, and his only significant one - the thirst - is barely ever brought into play. (and how often can you bring it up before it becomes completely stale?)

I didn't mind at all that they introduced other characters with some depth to them, and thought they were developing the story competently enough, but it really wasn't a good enough show for me to miss it much - in large degree because of the weak source material...

Well, I disagree. For one, I don't think killing vampires ever gets boring. Otherwise people wouldn't still be making vampire movies after what, 80s years. (And besides Vampires, there's a whole dictionary full of supernatural critters to kill)

Secondly, I think Blade is a typical action hero. He's stoic, but he does have a personality. I think it would be very easy to introduce a character that complements him, not supplants him, like in the TV series.

Thirdly, even if you are right, or rather, the producers of the show probably thought you were right, then why adapt a movie like Blade to begin with? You're only going to alienate most of the fans of the movies (who are already surly over Blade III). I mean, you take a brand that is known for stylistic action and amazing fight scenes and turn it into a an angsty chick show? That's not a good use of branding...

I liked it too. I suppose it just wasn't dumb enough for the Spike network. Oh well, at least they've got another hour to show "World's Most Dangerous Circus Clowns", "When House Cats Attack II" and professional wrestling.

That is terrible news. I really liked Blade. I thought it was done very well and I looked forward to every new episode. It was on my "must watch" list. I liked that they didn't focus much on Blade because as others have said, his character isn't that deep. So, they brought in some good secondary characters, who really carried the story.

I am not happy about this. Of course, I should be used to the fact that the shows I like won't survive. *sigh*

Have a good one! Take care!

Good riddance. Maybe Spike will put something worth watching and properly closed captioned in its place.

Hmm, you say this as if they have anything else good to watch. Blade is the only reason why I've actually turned to Spike TV in a LONG time.

I started watched it at the beginning of the season. I caught the first three or four episodes and it just did not hold my interest, so I stopped watching, that plus the Closed Captoning was atrocious. I occasionally watch Married With Children.

Re-runs of CSI Vegas is the only reason I watch Spike TV at all.

Tried to watch the show a couple of times, but just couldn't get into it. Not helping was the fact the guy playing Blade (who is supposed to be a major badass) was struggling to take down one or two vampire mooks, or that it was advertised as being about Blade doing his thing, but instead was more about some ex-cop vampire chick.
