D&D 5E No winter/spring hardback for the first time in 5E history?

Prakriti

Hi, I'm a Mindflayer, but don't let that worry you
Surprising. If we're getting a hardback in the next few months, WotC is exceptionally late in announcing it. None of the first/second quarter releases in the past have been announced later than Feburary, and most were announced in January. It is now March 1st (or will be in a few hours).

I guess we're not getting anything new until the fall, unless you count Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, which we were assured wasn't taking up an official product slot.

EDIT: Oh no... I spoke too soon. Another Magic: The Gathering cross-over.

So you haven't heard about the Theros book supposedly coming in May?

Last I checked May is smack in the middle of Q2.

And why wouldn't you count Wildemount or its announcement?
Granted, it's not a book that's of any interest to me, but it's still a D&D release.

I did completely miss it. Whoops. When I saw that thread, I thought it was another Kickstarter.

I suspect the OP meant "no winter/spring hardback adventure." And it does seem like we're going an unusually long time between adventure announcements. Unless one or more of the setting books includes one or more adventures?

Wildemount is supposed to have 4 adventures if I remember correctly. Eberron had an adventure too I believe. Not sure what Theros will bring, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was short adventure.

I am wondering when we will get an official announcement of this book. Maybe when the WotC office opens?

Disappointing that we'll have to go back to September 2019 for an original adventure from Wizards (or May 2018 for a monster book). Don't we have enough campaign settings? How many campaign worlds do DMs go through, anyway?

What's funny is that for the first 3-4 years of 5E, we were told that campaign settings split the fan-base and directly lead to the death of an edition, as was the case with 2E.

Now, in 2020, Wizards is all like, "Let's split the fan-base! New campaign settings every year! Woo! It's time to sink this ship!"

I mean, what the hell happened?

Popularity. Lots more people play now which means more room for options.

Or someone in marketing wants to push cross-pollination or whatever the buzzword go synergistic growth is nowadays.
