Non-DDI subscribers getting access to VT

Soon, non-subscribers will be able to get access to the VT.

From the VT Beta group:

Hello beta participants,

This week, we're implementing a system to allow non-DDI subscribers to have access to the Virtual Table.

Here's the write up on how that will work:

  • DDi Subscribers can access a new "Code" tab to generate up to 10 codes that they can use to invite their friends to the beta. They can email these codes to their friends.
  • Friends will log onto the VT with their D&D community site username and password. In the "Code" tab they enter the code they were sent by a friend. They can then access the VT for free.
  • Free users have some restrictions on their use of the VT: can't import PCs or Monsters + can't access cloud repository for Maps, Adventures, or PCs. Otherwise, they can join and run games on the VT just like DDi subscribers.

Thanks, and have fun!

Either the GM can do it for you or you just use a token without stats. I don't think thats a big deal.

Now they only need to make it able to import Pictures/Maps of your own... :)

Well, if someone doesn't have a VTT membership, they don't have a PC to import do they? So, it doesn't really matter that they can't import their characters. I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to forward the character to the DM and have him input the token. Wouldn't take too long. The DM just has to handle the scut work.

So it appears that it is now live, or at the very least the code that gives out the codes has been pushed to the webpage.

Here is a quick primer on how to get the codes:

  1. Log into your DDI account.
  2. Head to http://vt.wizards.com/
  3. Click on the "code" tab.
  4. Click on Create a new code.
  5. Page will automagically refresh, and code will be there.
  6. Email code to friend.

Here is how to redeem one of these codes:
  1. Browse to http://vt.wizards.com/campaigns.php
  2. Login with your WotC Community Site UserID/PW.
  3. Click on the code tab.
    [*]Redeem the code.

Note that the bolded parts are, for me, theoretical, as I cannot test this.

Here are two codes I created for people to test. First two to grab them can login and try it out. Please report back the exact procedure to redeem the codes. Thanks!!

Ha, awesome. :) I see a couple of campaigns upcoming for me.

Awesome! I don't know how long the codes are good for once created/activated. When they used to have codes for using it, they lasted for 24 hours.

Note that non-subscribers won't, through this code, be given access to the CB or stuff like that. If they want to put in a character, the best bet is to have the DM make them a character via the character builder or have them put in all the powers themselves.
