Non-Forest Druids

Desert druids can be rather badass too. Water whenever you want it (from Orisons), usually good ranks in survival so they know where and how to get shelter, predict weather, etc. And while those raiding bandit types are slogging thru the deep sands on foot, the druid is just walking along atop it, at no movement penalty, and leaving no tracks in the loose sand. At later levels, they're immune to all the venomous pricks of the snake, scorpions, etc that are common to where they live, they can easily wildshape into eagles and survey the landscape for miles and miles and miles... and when they get angry - BAM.

In my RttToEE campaign, I modified one of the NPC's to be a "Fungal Druid". He's got the equivalent of a shambling mound as a companion, and all his spells revolve around molds, slimes, and fungi.

One of the players is exploring the idea of an "Earth druid." Basically swapping out plant and animal spells for stone and earth spells. It's been a lot of fun to play with .

From what I hear, Masters of the Wild has some good ideas for PrC's of weird druids.

The 2e Druids HB had some good alternate druids.

aye. and it would still be mostly useable in 3e. that's the first book i can think of that gave spefic rules for non-forested druids. you know, druids that lived in other environments - arctic, swamp, mountains... like a dozen different variants. haven't looked at that book in years, but i think you want to give it at least a look.

The 2e Druids Book is indeed one of the best resources about non-forest druids. Its got ideas for arctic, desert, swamp, mountain and even underdark druids ("grey druids"). I really, really like it, and I kept it when I gave away a bunch of 2e stuff a while back.

MotW has some interesting concepts as well.

I've always really kinda liked the idea of a sewer druid- maybe a halfling or a half-orc who guards the ecosystem below an ancient, decaying city.
