Non-random Crusader?

Anyone done up a non-random Crusader variant that they're happy with, or some across one that looks good?

It's the class I'm having the most issues with currently (in the general process of becoming more familiar with the Bo9S). Well, one issue, basically: the random manoeuvres.

I've read the brief bit about why they are that way. I still don't like it. I'm not quite sure why, as I'm all in favour of more randomness in some other areas of the game - more than the default, in certain cases.

Anyway yeah, has anyone created or found a good fix to that 'problem'?

I hope not, that's one of the few things that balances how strong some of the Devoted Spirit maneuvers are.
That's why I asked for a 'fix'. I don't want to just remove the random maneouvres, and leave it at that! :)
 


Well, presuming that the crusader is balanced as written (which I happen to agree with), any system that removes the randomness from their maneuver selection must compensate for the increase in power by decreasing power somewhere else.

Note: I'll be using the card metaphor to explain these ideas.

Idea one:

Use the maneuver granting rules as written, except allow the player to set the order of the deck. To compensate, decrease the initial hand size by 1.

Idea two:

Instead of a hand, maneuvers are in a loop with a preselected order. At any time, the character has access to a portion of the loop (equal to starting hand size). Each turn, the accessible portion shifts around the loop.

Thus, one round one (for a 1st level character), the same two maneuvers are always available. On round two, maneuver 1 is replaced by maneuver 3 (expended or not). On round three, manever 2 is replaced by 4. And so on.

This is probably harsher than idea one, so it depends on how much you think the crusader gains from nonrandomness.

sounds like someone just wants to start right up with the two broken maneuver scenario that cropped up a while back, but they want to have it start in the first round of combat every time. ;)

uber, blast, repeat...
