Non-random D&D Miniatures

Well, the "Legend of Drizzt" Scenario pack may only be the first of the non-random packs (with more than one figure)...

From Linae Foster:
"We've recently announced a new concept we're working into the DDM Icons line - scenario packs. The Legend of Drizzt Scenario Pack http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndmin/9780786943500 is the first of these. Now that you've seen what we can do, what other suggestions do you have? I've heard talk of Iconic war bands, famous battles from DL/FR, multiple huges, sets of like monsters, etc. What else would you want? Keep in mind the product has to be profitable (duh!), marketable (it's gotta appeal to LOTS of people), sized such that the shipping costs aren't outrageous, and the MSRP has to be reasonable. Bring on the ideas - I'm listening!"

The feedback thread is here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=796534

Cheers!

first link doesn't work.

but the feedback thread has some nice ideas.

Now this...

An 'entire dungeon' in a box has a lot of appeal, especially for a new DM that wants to run a low level adventure. Imagine if all of the figures necessary to run an adventure like Sunless Citadel were included in one box with the module, and a guide to help a new DM.

...is an idea I find excessively appealing.

I'm the sort of guy who doesn't play the minis game, kind of like using the plastic minis for my D&D games. The trouble is, it's simply too much trouble to hunt down and purchase minis that actually match the encounters in any given adventure, and I gave up buying the plastic D&D minis long ago.

Yeah well - I just buy LOTS of the minis, and so I normally have the minis I need for my D&D game... or design adventures based on the minis I have. :)

(More commentary on non-random minis in my blog.)

Cheers!

It'll be interesting to see where they go with this. I'd love to see some of the more iconic critters from the old days in a pack. Perhaps scenario packs based upon classic modules? Yeah, I'd definitely be all over that!

The suggestion I want is Kitiara, Sturm and Skie from the High Clerist's Tower battle.

Cheers!

I like the idea, but I think it's a mistake. The Drizzt pack will probably sell, since it appeals to dragon collectors and Salvatore fans, but it would be hard to find anything else with the same potential. Half of the products are going to retail stores with limited shelf space who will not carry something like an electricity-themed warband pack.

And what's the first suggestion? "Circle of Eight". How many people under 30 even know what that is? How many copies of a box of assorted robed men can you expect to sell? It would flop.

The thread is full of terrible ideas, however nice in theory.

Definitely. However, there are some good ideas - and at least Wizards is letting people make suggestions.

Cheers!
