Had an idea and dont have any wiz books but are non standard familars allowed.

Eg Tortoise. adds 2 to base AC

Turtle Adds 1 to base ac +2 to swim or hold breath

Spider Adds 2 to climb, balance or provides all around sight.
(ok that may be a bit overpowered 5 foot blindsight)

Grasshopper Adds 2 to jumping and leaping skills.

Pig Adds 2 to Endurance, specail ability in wilderness find truffles.

Monkey Adds 2 to dex.

Lemer GIves darkvision/ low light vision.

Bat Gives blind sight 30 foot

Cockroach - 2 to charisma +2 endurance + 2 all saves

any more ideas?

All sound pretty reasonable to me (I want a pig!), although some (including pig) are significantly larger than the default familiars.

There is an Improved Familiar feat in Tome and Blood, but that's designed for stuff like pseudodragons and quasits. I can't see any reason why you couldn't use the one's you've listed as standard familiars.

There does seem to be some author's intent to keep familiars sized relative to their master. Tome and Blood includes variant familiars for tiny/large wizards and sorcerers. Obviously that's really only a flavour issue though (no diffence in power-levels).

Note: The bat is already a standard familiar - with no granted ability. Blindsight is a fairly tough ability, useable in a lot of circumstances. Keep in mind that the bat can already alert its master when someone is near. I don't know whether adding it as a master's benefit would be unbalancing or not.
