Nonsensical Fun Stuff...

Do you ever find yourself just putting stuff into an adventure area just for the sake of fun, and not because it makes any kind of "realistic" sense?

Like say you're fighting in a clock tower- Putting gears on the wall that you don't have any idea what they would be there for, or any indication of them connecting to anything, but people can jump onto, and maybe ride partially up the wall before getting tossed off, or squished.

Or just not putting a ladder or staircase in the thing... Sure a ladder would be more realistic, but ridding gears and climbing the pendulum seems more fun.

Thoughts?

Like the concept of "eye candy" in an adventure setting. particularly since it is a imagined environment. sort of like flavor text, which really does add to the experience.

you could encourage exploration and playing with the environment by hiding "easter eggs" that is neat things that are not in any way related to the storyline, and may be discovered or not, no biggie.

Yeah... I think this is an aspect people really can gank from videogames in their home games.

Videogames often seem like they have encounter areas and challenges that aren't designed from a "this is how it would really be" standpoint, and more of a "this makes a fun challenge and looks cool" standpoint.

I think the hazzard/trap, and terrain things in the new edition will work with this nicely.

Umm, I think these things pre-date video games.

I think they have long been part of a game called "Dungeons & Dragons".
