• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

Not only is this totally sweet, but... THAT'S MY NPC!!!

Way back (even before Virtual Reality was a media buzzword) I thought that it would be cool to write a science fiction story about a planet whose population had entered itself into a shared reality in order to survive environmental destruction. A number of machines kept the people fed and protected while they lived in a virtual paradise. What the interface looked like was very much inspired by the work of HR Giger's biomechanics. The explorers that discover the world think that the machines have enslaved the people. The machines are programed to put humanoids into the virtual reality that are not already so. So the plot largely becomes escaping the machines on the world. However one person gets put in and discovers the truth and history behind whats going on. So in the end you would get a sort of ending like "Jacobs Ladder." The machines are not bad depending on if you are ready to go into the virtual reality or not.

Needless to say, I never got around to writing it and then the Matrix came out and I was like "wow, read my mind. Sort of..." Now its sort of just another matrix rip off...

Aaron.
