Tarag winces when Galwynn slaps him on the shoulder. He takes a moment to cast one more minor healing on himself before taking the place indicated for him. For once, he's not going to argue - besides, he'll have no trouble seeing and being seen on this straight stair.

"Ready for whatever? Sure, I'll get right on that." Tommy snaps. After a moment, he sighs, then turns to Galwynn. "I'm sorry, that was uncalled for. This tower has me on edge for some reason."

Galwynn is about to say something harsh, but then catches himself, and tries to offer a sincere smile that just comes off as awkward. "It's alright. We're nearing the end of this, and I think we're all afraid what's at the top of those stairs."

Galwynn thinks for a moment, and then decides to speak.
When I was younger, at Halina's Orphanage in my village, there was this gelding - a really spirited thing. First time I tried to ride it, it threw me off, knocked me out cold - if it wasn't for a few friends of mine who pulled me out of the corral, it would have killed me. But I kept trying to get back on.

And it kept kicking me off.

I broke my arm, got two black eyes, and several cracked ribs, but I stubbornly kept trying to get on the horse. Finally, one of the temple mothers got fed up with me, and asked me why I kept trying to ride a stupid horse that obviously had it in for me. I told her it was because I was afraid of it, and i had to conquer my fear.

She laughed, and told me that was impossible. Then she said something to me I never forgot - 'fear is your body reminding you that you're still alive, so your spirit doesn't do something stupid.' I had to acknowledge the fact that I was afraid of the horse, and that trying to ride it wasn't going to do me any good.

I don't know what made me think of that. She was a great Temple Mom. Halina's Heart, I miss her."

Galwynn stares up the flight of stairs, in quiet thought.

"Sorry, Gal," says Keldar. "I guess I'm nervous. When we're done here, maybe we could go back to your home for a visit. Before the end of summer, help out with the harvest maybe. Huh?"

"I'm not crazy about horses myself," Tommy says, "Especially when combined with blood-crazed dire weasels. But, as you say, we're nearly there. I just hope Thyrin really is well in there."

Galwynn glares at Keldar, and is about to say something very harsh, before he realizes it's an innocent comment. "There's not much of it standing, thief. A few buildings that escaped the fire, I guess... but they were abandoned. Badgersgrove is nothing more than an abandoned firepit. And a graveyard."
