Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

"Were there indeed? Hmm, well, the sight of a beautiful woman will dull the common sense of some men - and there were a couple of ... unsavoury looking characters there."

"You know, Tommy," says Keldar, "I think I can almost remember one particular passage from that book I was telling you about. It goes something like this: In the angry red light of the burning courtyard, droplets of sweat - or were they perhaps the tears of Ishyalee, temple-acolyte? - glistened on the expanse of naked chest visible beneath Kel- I mean, Barry Lakeward's savagely ripped undershirt. 'Oh, schmoopienookums,' cried the priestess, 'avenge our dishonour!' Lakeward tossed Ishyalee into the hay-filled back of the cart. 'I cannot fight the paladin,' he growled, 'not while he has his trousers around his ankles and is stuck to the wall with sovereign glue. But I can do this!' Lakeward's bunched fist collided with the paladin's horse's head. Something like that. Really, quite thrilling stuff."

"It sounds very entertaining," Tommy says, smiling. "I think you would have liked Epicene Wildeblood, too. Let me see if I can remember any of it. Hmm, how about, "Epicene stood gingerly and carefully brushed pieces of thatch and mud off of his spotless cream-colored doublet before looking up and surveying the damage to the roof. "Using the stealthy approach, I see," a sweet, feminine voice came from behind him. "How novel. You're here for the diamond, I assume?" Epicene whirled, stumbled, caught himself and turned the motion into what he hoped was a graceful pirouette that carried him into the shaft of sunlight streaming in through the shattered roof. "No, dearest maiden," he said desperately, blinking in the sudden brightness. "I've come to steal you away and make you mine!" "Oh!" said the voice, moving closer. "You should know, then, that the Sword-maidens of Riem are sworn to belong to no man." At last the woman moved into the sunlight, and Epicene found himself staring up, up into a pair of dancing brown eyes. He felt a cold metal shackle close around his neck as the swordmaiden added, "You, however, may certainly belong to me.""

[sblock=ooc]Oh, god, we're making up romance novel plots. EternalSword, help! Save us from ourselves![/sblock]

"My word, Epicene is in a ticklish situation now," says Keldar. He looks around to see how the other two took the tale fragment, and is surprised to see Rapture some distance away, perhaps with a stiffness in her back that was not there before. He frowns, rubbing the day's stubble on his chin, and chewing his bottom lip, as some recent events clarify themselves in his mind.

Tarag rolls his eyes and moves up to travel alongside Rapture, leaving the other two to their foolishness.

"Will you fill me in on what has happened so far, Rapture? What do we know of conditions inside the tower?"

OOC: Sorry i've been gone, my web connection died.

Anyway, as you return to the tower, it is much the same as you left it. The fire has shrunk back into the top floor and the containment field is nearly flush with the roof.

Cassandra is waiting near the entrance, as is Galwynn, presumably.
