Notes on the Aether (Rae judging)

Keldar runs ahead of the group as they reach the tower. "Galwynn! I'm back! Did you miss me?" he cries. "We found a new priest."
[sblock=Galwynn]Keldar whispers confidentially, "He's a dwarf... very traditional... Charet of Hyrag. Don't rub him up the wrong way."[/sblock]

Tarag slows as the group approaches the tower. He eyes the structure, wreathed in contained flame, and the elemental standing in front of it, with caution. Somehow the reality is more daunting than the report.

Then he shakes himself and strides forward, ready to meet this creature of lightning.

Rapture smiles. "M'lord, this is Tarag," She says, introducing Galwynn to the dwarf.

"I believe we're ready to enter the tower now," she says.

"That's what I said," says Keldar. "Hello, Cassandra. Are the elementals still where we left them? You said there's an earth elemental on the ground floor?" He approaches the tower. "You know," he says after a moment, "it's going to take either a half-orc barbarian with an adamantine greataxe or a genius to open that door."

Cassandra utters a few words in an unknown tongue. The runes around the door glow in patterns for a few seconds. Everything is still in roughly the same place. We do, however, have a complication. One of the fire elemental soldiers has damaged the the door to the safe room on the fourth floor. There's no danger of it breaking through, but hinges fused together. You'll have to go through the lab on the fifth floor to the other door. On the other hand, the fire in the lab is almost out of fuel.

She turns to look at Tarag. Hello. I trust Keldar and Tommy filled you in on the situation?

"Greetings. It's always good to meet a Dedicated Warrior. And hail to you, too, Cassandra. Yes, I've been told what lies within. I must admit, I'm keen to see how a wizard lives."

Tarag turns to the others in the party and says, "I've been thinking about my role in this rescue. I'm not long ordained, and my capacity for prayer is limited. I can attempt to rebuke the fire elementals a few times each day. If that works, they'll be much easier for you to dispatch. Apart from that, I think I should reserve Chennet's gifts for healing."

"Of course, I can wield a weapon, so I hope to be of some use in battle, as well. Perhaps it would be best, though, if I stand back a little, ready to heal where necessary, and to protect our wizardly friend, here."

"There's one thing I'm not sure of. Assuming that we go into the tower and successfully fight our way through the lesser elementals, we may well find that many of our resources are spent. Just how much rest could we get before the summoned elementals start reappearing? Would it be safe to rest inside, and replenish spells and prayers, or once in will we have to push on to the end?"

[sblock=OOC]And one housekeeping question. From previous posts, it looks like the players make their own rolls. Is that right? I'm happy for the DM to do it but I'll go with the flow.[/sblock]

Galwynn stands up as the group approaches. "Well, you're back. You haven't missed much; the tower barely moved."

The paladin regards the dwarf coolly for a moment, and then inclines his head politely. "Always a pleasure to meet a man of the cloth. I get along fairly well with dwarves, although my dwarvish is abysmal. This will have to do"

Galwynn extends his hand.

Afterwards, he exchanges a few words with the party -

To Rapture - "How was your travel? I hope you were able to escape the thief's company for at least a few moments?"

To Tommy - "You still have a horse, I see. I would have thought you'd walk back."

to Keldar - "You came back, Thief. I would have thought you would have been distracted by something at this point - a maiden to deflower or an unlocked door, no doubt."

After hearing Cassandra speak, Galwynn chuckles without humour. "Madam, I've been staring at this tower for two days now, ready to go inside. I'm ready!" While saying this, he is busy securing his armour and stretching his muscles.

Rapture nods "We sent him to the inn while Tommy and I made sure Sami was settled, m'lord. He stopped singing too. Now he's writing an erotic novel with the priest."

Tarag does a double-take at Rapture's words, then shakes his head and mutters under his breath about the mental state of his companions.
