Nothing quite so cool as...

About 8 or so years ago, I was on a holiday touring around the US. I stayed in this Youth Hostel in Washington D.C. for 3 days.

In my dorm was this guy who was also from Sydney travelling with a mate of his. In the evenings, we would get to chatting, but I never ended meeting the mate as I was always asleep before he returned to the dorm room and was still in that state as I left for the morning.

The third morning, my dorm-mates had to get up early (to buy a cheap car as I recall in order to continue their travels around the country). I finally met the other guy. After a few minutes we recognised each other. I had GMed him in a convention AD&D game that I wrote back in '91...

Suprised the hell out of me.... and him I suspect.

What a small, small world....

That's just too funny.

The only thing close to it that I've experienced is the annual "spot the gamer!" contest we have in airports on our way to GenCon.

We do this on the drive up to GENCON, saying "bet they are gamers" as we pass their cars. :D

Totally, as we were walking into Gen Con this year, some folks yelled out "Teflon Billy" and got me to sign their programme.

The people I was wtih asked "What are you so famous for?"

I had no answer for them :uhoh:
IT was that 30th anniversary artwork/poster!

Then again, you DO look like you should be someone important, at least have a fan club or promoting a beer brand. ;) Damn, high chrisma I say. :p

We played that game this year too! Nothing for about 7 hours, then we hit Columbus, OH and all of a sudden there were 4 minivans with Star Trek stickers on them packed with people heading the same direction we were going. Then we ran into a bunch of people with White Wolf t-shirts at a rest area. And so on and so on... Someone must have spotted my Miskatonic University license plate holder because they were waving like crazy as they passed us, and then I see a Cthulhu fish sticker on their bumper. :) Man, I'm such a geek...

we did that on the way back from gencon... noting how many different plates from different states we saw, and how very few of them were from indiana. ;)

Wow - had you already paid?

Because if it was me, depending on my mood I would say something like "You know what, never mind, you've helped me to decide not to ship with your company ever again".

If I was feeling really miffed I would have first asked to speak to the manager and then "credit" her attitude and general "helpfulness" with my new decision.
