When you post it is contribution of the positive sort. It is only possible for a moderator to have a negative contribution, as they have the power to delete posts (and entire threads for that matter). The nothing only adds to something and that something is postcount.

Repying means postcount=postcount+1.

Yes, a post is something. I said that earlier. To take a post and invert it (?) would most likely be a neagtive contribution. How subverting the molecular structure of the an atom and applying fliboclorum hypercinate would most likely cause an electroneurism and sut down the capacity for understanding how postcount means the opposite of neagpost.
