Actually, I'm looking forward to this one. I think it could be fun to have a game-within-a-game, & I'm particularly intrigued by the mention of character skill levels affecting the card game (such as Sleight of Hand increasing the coinage gained from cards that allow you to take from the pot or other players).

I do have to wonder about the 50gp per player bit, though. Where the heck is this game played in a RAW-based setting; Fantasy Monaco? Seriously, who other than adventurers or nobles is going to have this kind of money to throw around gambling under the assumed D&D economy? I think they should have said '50 coins' & then mentioned that players' characters would probably use gold, while most regular people would use silver at best.

I mean it could be interesting. Let's just say I've been burned by (TSR) style card games before. I made the horrible mistake of buying the "random encounter" deck years ago and it resides in my closet.

The poker craze I was referring is the proliferation of "World Series of Poker" style television shows. As a result, most gambling locations cannot keep enough poker rooms open.

Is it just me or did anyone want to play the card game featured in the Wyvern's Spur?

I felt the same way for years, but a while back I found my deck again, pulled some cards from it and started using ideas for my own game. Whenever I'm stuck for a wilderness encounter or urban event I give it a sort through for ideas. Of course, the deck of magic items is a different story, but it came in a nice box!
