Well, I'm a bit torn about this announcement...

On the one hand, I purchased the original From Novice to Master and find it to be a quality product. I haven't had the chance to read it in detail yet (stupid real life responsibilities...), but my brief perusal has revealed some interesting ideas and a professional looking PDF with some very nice art.

I am also glad to hear that a gaming company has apparently responded so quickly to the comments and reviews of others and made beneficial changes to their product. PDF is a pretty fluid medium and ideal for that sort of "customer service."

Finally, I was thrilled tonight to have already received an e-mail that alllowed me to download the revised version for free. This is most appreciated.

On the other hand, what troubles me a little is the "permanent re-introduction price of $4.99." As I write this, it's early morning on November 24. I purchased the original PDF for $10.00 on November 5, the day after it became available on RPG Now. That's less than 3 weeks, and suddenly I've "lost" $5.01. Now, I willingly paid $10.00 for the PDF and don't regret the purchase. However, it does trouble me that a PDF that was worth $10.00 on November 5 is worth less than half the price 3 weeks later. Leaves a person feeling rather cheated for being an early purchaser.

I'm fairly new to PDF purchasing, so I'm curious to know: Are these sort of rapid price drops common among PDF publishers? Seems to me that it could be a potentially bad idea. Sure, a new lower price probably brings in additional buyers, but now people like me become less inclined to take a chance and purchase a new product on the assumption that the price is bound to drop later. Frankly, I admit to often being a spur-of-the-moment buyer, and if I think about a product too long, there's a greater chance I'm going to reconsider the purchase!

Oh well. That bit of annoyance aside, I do think From Novice to Master will interest a lot of gamers, and at $4.99, it's become a real bargain!

Thank you for bringing that up, as I am hoping the rest of the customers will as well. Based on your post I have went ahead and offered a free volume of Artifacts of the Arcane (any volume other than the publishers Edtns) to all the previous purchasers of Novice to Master before the price reduction. You should recieve your email shortly. If you don't, email me pronto and I'll certainly take of it for you!

What a quick (unexpected) response! I've already received your e-mail, and know I'll be sure to take a look at the Artifacts of the Arcane series and let you know.

You've certainly got my vote as a 100% class act. I hope this kind of respect and appreciation for your customers translates into great sales for all of your current and future products. Cheers!

We appreciate all your comments and you are a valued customer. Our price drop and added materials was in response to low buyer turnout for From Novice to Master. We thought it was worth the money at $10, but not enough people wanted to take a chance on it, so we had to adjust our product and price accordingly. That's just the nature of economics. The idea wasn't to penalize those who took a chance on it (hence the free upgrade, and I appreciate Shane offering extra in compensation with his free Arcane product), the idea was to try to sell more to make our imprint viable so we can continue to put out quality products. It is a great value now, as you have mentioned, and we appreciate your enthusiasm. Anybody who is happy with us and this product, I strongly urge to comment on it and rate it at rpgnow.com. I think anybody would be hard-pressed to find more detailed versions of the common classes (duelist, bounty hunter, cavalier, gladiator, dragon slayer) presented, and the more creative prestige classes are worth the money (Malkan Knight alone is worth $5, in my opinion). The artwork is outstanding in every aspect. Well, I've boasted enough, I think. Please buy, you won't be sorry.

In retrospect (and when it wasn't 12:30 in the morning...), this had occurred to me, and I'm sorry to hear it confirmed. The quick drop in price still surprises me a bit, but I do recall hearing (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the "window" for selling PDF products tends to be smaller than it is with more traditional print products. Thus, I suppose you have to act rather quickly and decisively if things aren't going as well as planned.

Once again, you all have my best wishes for success on all of your products. I will certainly be sure to check them out.

This is absolutley true, as I am sure it will one day be added to the Economic classes for Buiseness regarding online PDF sales. Everyone here and on RPGnow are certainly pioneers in my opinion.
