now I know I am getting old

Lorgrom

First Post
I just got done (left not even half way though the session) playing tonight. There were three new players, two of which were kids under 15. This is the first time that playing with new players has bothered me so much. I got up and left the game. I even told the DM to have the kobolds who had knocked me unconcious, take the full round action and kill me.

Guess my time of having the tolerance to teach new players has finally passed. Hopefully my desire to keep playing doesn't die soon as well.

Thanks for listening

Pretty sure I wouldn't like playing with kids that young (unless they were my own, and no I am not old enough for that yet lol) At the most recent WOTC gameday, there was a kid that was maybe 10 at the table and it was fun for a one shot, but I don't think I could tolerate her permanently. There isn't a person at our table below 30 (not since I hit the big 3-0 this month that is).

I play with a bunch of college age guys. Sometimes my age shows, like the night we started talking about Battlestar Gallactica. After a couple of minutes, the conversation went like this:

Me: Waaait a minute. You guys are talking about the new one.
Them: New what?
Me: Battlestar. I saw the one with Lorne Greene.
Them: Who?
Me: Lorne Greene. You know, Ben Cartwright.
Them: Huh?
Me: Alpo?
Them: Sit down, old man. You feeling okay?
Me: Shut up. Damn punks.

In one of my groups, we're all between the ages of 40 and 70 (seriously, we do have someone that old).

About a year ago, we added two new players to that group -- 17 year old twin girls, the daughters of some folks who used to play in the group.

Yeah, there's a generation gap, but mostly we use it to laugh at the differences (both ways; the girls laugh at us for being ancient, and we laugh at them for not having been around for important things, like the premiere of any of the original Star Wars movies).

But, all in all, it's been refreshing to have young people in the group, especially ones who are just discovering gaming for the first time.

Don't sell yourself short sweety - I turn 37 this August, my son turns 18 on Wednesday... Yep, I are smart, just not real bright. :)

Lorgrom, the thing to remember is, eventually they will mature. Yes, for the next two years there are endless Sponge Bob and fart jokes, but after that, the grow into real jokes and quoting Monty Python at the table, then everything's fine. ;)

I once gamed with someone who I think was 16. I had only recently turned 23 atm [so this was within a year] and didn't think that the gap would be big enough to make a difference. The problem is is that I don't know if it was that person's personality or simply that he hadn't mature enough, but the dude was outright annoying. I mean, he always wanted to go out on his own and from the beginning was trying to figure out a way to make a ninja. He kept dying and kept trying to figure out ways using like Fighter and Rogue until he heard about the Base Class Ninja.

By this time, everyone was tired of it and on the way home, he was asked politely not to return.

People tend to mature as they get older, but some annoying traits stay with a person even through middle-age, I'm sure. Because this was a single, isolated experience, I'm not sure which one it was [though I assumed mostly the former with a little bit of the latter thrown into the mix].

Really, I think people of any age could game together as long as they get along well.

I introduced some subteens to D&D while I was in my 20's.

It just doesn't bother me too much in general. I might change my opinion depending upon the particular teens- guess it depends upon the nature of the game and the kids' general level of maturity.

Some of the 25+ year olds were more immature than the two 16 year olds I introduced to the game.

sex jokes have a place and time. Not 4 3/4 hours of the 5 hour session.

though some of those were really funny....... :heh:

Hehe. I like sex jokes. Actually, I think they've occurred less often recently for some reason. Wonder why that is.
