Pathfinder 1E Now that Pathfinder is out, is anyone giving their setting a try?

To each their own. As far as I'm concerned those APs are some of the best RPG books I've ever bought.

Agreed. I don't want to come across as a total Paizo shill, but those AP books are not just 'modules'. There is a meaty amount of content in there.. new full monster write-ups, support articles that are not dependent on the adventure to be useful.. some good fiction. 96 pages and good binding.

There really needs to be an 'apples to apples' comparison when talking about price.

You always have the serials starred in the APs, though.

I really like it. On paper, it doesn't sound like the kind of setting that I like. Vanilla fantasy, etc. But somehow the Paizo folks have managed to take all that oldness and tiredness and make it fascinating all over again.

I think they took old fantasy tropes and made them unique. Case in point: gnomes are usually portrayed as curious creatures...but in Golarian they can actually age faster if they don't have something new to occupy them on a regular basic. That something is called, "The Bleaching."

I love Golarion. I've played D&D since I was a child and kept up on FR, DL, and to some extent Greyhawk. To me, there is no better than Golarion for basic fantasy with a lot of interesting, unique flavor. It truly feels like a living breathing world.

I'm all for Golarion, but I don't really want the 2e-style mountain of background that comes with its Chronicles supplements. I'm basically thinking of running some modules, maybe an AP here and there, while treating the campaign setting book as a stand-alone sandbox product for me to do as I want, Wilderlands-style.

Oh.. on their own boards they've alredy said this is just about a certainty. Literally, Erik Mona posted, "I'm working on it."

I realize I'm just some guy on the internet.. but trust me. They're looking into it. They just haven't gotten some details nailed down yet.

I'm not denying the quality of the APs. But I'd much rather buy a supplement that will inspire me to come up with my own stories. I mean, I can certainly take an AP module and make it my own, but I've never been a published module kind of guy. That's just me.

Have you considered the Pathfinder Chronicles then? They usually describe an aspect of the setting in greater detail which may provide you with the inspiration you are looking for.

Nothing wrong with that! Not in the slightest.

I just don't think they're necessarily overpriced.

However if they're not the product that serves you best, that's completely understandable. That's a completely different issue.

That will be cool. I'm a fan of setting novels--FR, Eberron, Dragonlance. If Paizo comes out with a Golarion set, I'll check those out too.

Nah, they look great, but the pdf prices are too high to tempt me. $35 for the big one and the 64 page gazeteer is still over $10. They are high on my amazon wish list, but not at the top. Used print copies of Eberron and Oathbound are ahead of it on my list.

I've also got a ton of cool settings as it is.
