So what better way to break up the monotony of a summer afternoon than to have pea to marble sized chunks of ice rain down out of the sky? Yup, we had a good old fashioned hailstorm this afternoon, with appropriate amounts of thunder, lightening, lashing winds and even a tornado warning for an adjacent county. Not big news in Kansas where I mostly grew up, but a bit more... personal than the weather normally gets with us here in MA. ;) Went out and took some pictures... I wish I already had a kid old enough to show the hail and break a peice apart and look at the rings... it's such neat stuff.

In related news, I have a BRAVE pug! :D The hubby may pine for the German Shepard of his youth and cast asperations on Lilac's canininity (I don't think thats a word) but this little smushed face mutant has shown no anxiety in the face of fireworks and midnight thunderstorms and was calmer in the hail and lightening than I was. A little sad looking at the noise, but a few jolly words from me and she put it aside as not to worry about and started wanting to play tug. German shepards, ha! Those 'manly dogs' would be trying to dig their way under the couch! :p (The opinion of german shepards and their bravery expressed in this post reflects only the personal expereince of and annectdotal reports recieved by the writer. 100% correlation with your german shepard is neither expressed nor implied. No manly dogs were harmed in the writing of this post...)

Arggh...I was smack in the middle of the Boston Commons when the whole thing started. Literally nowhere to go...

Good thing it didn't last too long!

Hubby says "At three o'clock... Should'a been at work!" :p He was working in boston and they watched the hail bouncing off of the roof next door, and he says he thought about the poor bastards caught outside....

It started here in attleboro much later - right around the time I would have been halfway from home had I decided it was nice enough to walk to the train station and meet him. I drove down to pick him up and it was all over, sun shining - but there were some strategicly placed lakes occupying crucial intersections...

I kept hoping it would knock out power at work and we could start the holiday weekend a little early, but no such luck, the storms were not that bad in Andover.

I'm impressed that your dog wasn't going crazy in the storm. Every dog I've ever known hates thunderstorms. Can't wait to meet Lilac the Brave in a couple of weeks.

Haha! You got me...busted.

Actually, my boss let us go early for the weekend (Yay boss!). I was so psyched to be able to leave early that I decided to head over to LGS to peruse when...ba-boom! :p

Here in Medford, it was morelike pea-sized and smaller hail. Which is perhaps lucky, as my garden would not have liked being pelted with marbles from the sky. Also saw some hail while driving on I-93 between Woburn and Downtown yesterday. Looks like it's becoming a habit for MA.

I know a number of veterinarians that agree with you that German Shepards are, in general, big wusses. They get the "manly" reputation from being larger, and sometimes being trained for police work. But your run of the mill german shepard is, in fact, a bit of a mama's boy :)

Most pugs have courage far in excess of their size. Their dogness is too big for their bodies. On the other hand, I went to college with a guy whose grandmother had six pugs. They overpowered a burglar by using piranha tactics.
