Having never used a sickle in a fight I wouldn't know but is the action of cutting wheat the same one used when employing the sickle as a weapon?

Anyway I was thinking that maybe he should have weapon focus sling instead - every farmboy makes a sling or catapult at some point and goes a huntin' squirrels...

I realize combat is probably different from harvesting, but I felt his familiararity with the tool would make it plausable. I also considered having a sling as his weapon of choice. Feel free when you are switching his bonus language to Gnome to also switch his weapon to sling. ;)

using skill focus would only make sense to me if he was maxing his skill point in that skill. With how few points a commoner gets he isn't at max in anything. Skill focus is better for experts.

I like the choice of Weapon Focus - Sickle. :)

He saved up for it, he's been farming for 9 years now. If you think it makes more sense for him to not get it till 4th level (17 years farming) then you could use him that way.
