NPC names

I wish it was still the case that when you XP'd someone, it showed up, because I think this is an absolutely beautiful post. They are wonderful lyrical, literate names, pleasant to the ear and full of sound. I love the blend of psuedo French and psuedo Hindu.

I want to introduce Kappa's to my setting now, just so I can steal Kappa Jo.
Thanks Cel! It's nice to hear someone likes my names. They're an important part of my DM prep. They really help me "get my head into" the campaign --even the if PCs only encounter a fraction of these NPCs. I'm taking over for a much-loved DM who moved away, so I feel like I've got a lot to live up to. It's reassuring to find someone else who considers the fruits of labors --such as they are-- pleasing.

Also, I feel like I lucked into the French/Hindi mash-up. It's easy to go from lyrical to funny (and back) in the space of a few syllables. I'll never forget the reaction my friend Shil had one of them (he's the DM I'm taking over from, who happens to be from India).

I introduced "Sharlemagne Alu". Shil paused, stone faced, and said "Charles the great... potato", then burst out laughing.

I enjoy stupid jokes and puns... just not in D&D. ;)
Pun names are one of the ways I'm a D&D traditionalist! Hmmm, since I'm also running an AD&D campaign currently, I guess I'm a traditionalist in a many ways these days.

I have been thinking and of all the languages I have looked at, I like a Spanish sounding language but not Spanish because most words either haven't been translated far or are easily recognisable...
Romance languages are always good!

I spent a whole afternoon looking for one German sounding name
If you're looking for Germanic, it's had to wrong with Parzival, ie Percival. Or Ulrick/Ulrich. That was the name of the pastor at the Lutheran church of my youth: Ulrick Keems. He was a great guy, but with a name like that it wouldn't surprise me if he an Inquisitor in a former life.

Nothing wrong with getting distracted while doing prep work. Some of my best deals came from a distraction months prior to ever seeing game time.

Also, Ulrick Tremar is a great name. He may show up somewhere in my Germanic based kingdom sometime.
