NPC wizard spellbooks

One thing I have a hard time figuring out when creating NPCs is how many spells an NPC wizard should have in their spellbook. Obviously they're going to get the minimum (self-learned) spells, but the number of spells that they might have copied from someone else is vague. Do you have a ballpark of a certain number of spells per level that you usually give to your NPCs?

This is one subject that I also wish was given treatment in the rules ("expected" spellbooks, similar to expected treasure). There are no such guidelines in the rulebooks.

NPC wizards buy and scribe spells using their starting gold, just like a fighter buys weapons and armor. Just decuct the cost of scribing and scrolls from their NPC wealth.

Cost of buying a scroll of & scribing a spell of level x:

25*(minimum caster level)*x + 200*x

Also, this is useful.
