One assumes this case is being fought with attorneys paid by the hour. Especially now at the appeals stages, that or the attorney involved is doing this pro bono out of an ideological or personal belief in the case.
According to the filings this lawyer has billed over $135,000 on this matter to date... no idea how much he's collected payment for but he doesn't strike me as the sort who can afford to do this pro bono.

I don't know about this specific attorney, but you always want to have you fees listed because there's always a chance you can ask for them as part of the judgment. This makes it hard to know what's billed and what's actually been paid.

The reason we have them is because they were part of the basis by which they claimed diversity and hence justified Federal court instead of state. That's, not how it works, but he listed them in a sworn statement.
