NWN - an EN World server?

Well, that was fun

I've been thinking about the possibilities of an EN World persistent world for NWN. The options that have occured to be are as follows:

1) Make an arrangement with an existing persistent world. Layonara Online has expressed an interest in this idea.

2) Host a pre-written module - something like Path of Ascension, which is allowed to be used and/or modified and seems like the right sort of thing.

3) Come up with an EN World module of my own. Not sure how good I'd be at that, though.

4) I am vaguely aware of something called the "EN World Guild" which existed for a while. What was that - a module? Does anyone have the files?

Option 1 is the easiest, as options 2, 3 and 4 mean that permanent hosting needs to come from somewhere. That option means much less control of the world from my end of things, though.

Would anyone be interested in such a thing? Personally, I'd love to play NWN online and run into EN Worlders. It would be great to stick a password on the server, so that we know that everyone we meet is an EN Worlder and not some random l33t d00d intent on ruining every else's fun.

It was a simple guild that was created on bioware's website for "easy" comincations, though our board ended up being far easier, in that department. :)

Enworld link: link

Unfortunately it looks like Bioware deleted the guild do to inactivity... :(

I'm leaning more to option 1, there's a lot of work to do with the later options and the life of the game is in question now... NWN2 has been announced and work has commenced.

The guild was loads of fun, honestly it was, I found a few friends in a PW but it doesn't really compare to playing with my fellow ENworlders did. :D

I might drop in every now and then if an ENWorld NWN guild was formed. Although NWN can be difficult to play over dial-up, I'd still give it a shot.

Im interested, for what its worth. I just got back into NWN since I finally have broadband.

I have zero skills in module building though.

For me I think NWN shines best in multiplayer vs. single player. And for multiplayer a campaign is better than a persistent world, IMHO. More DnD-y if that makes sense. And a bit easier to handle, perhaps.

For what its worth...

I would also be intrested in seeing this idea become a reality. However, like Dark Jezter im a prehistoric dial-up connection user... So while I will certainly give it a try, im not sure if I will be able to participate fully. Ive had some online success, but more failures than successes. I may win the lottery someday and get a cable modem though. (yeah right haha)

Great ieda. I hope it comes about and is active.

Peace

Hi!

I haven't really been on any persistant worlds (PWs) since I started playing NWN (a couple of months ago). But I would definately try one associated with EN World. :)

However, it seems like building (and maintaining) a PW is an enormous, time-consuming effort!! I only opened the toolset a few times and was rather overwhelmed by the options, although I'm sure I could figure it out eventually ;)

If you can't find decent modders, affiliation with an already-existing PW is an interesting option. Or perhaps having a section of the boards here for posting NWN multi-player games (à la NeverWinter Connections) would allow EN Worlders to get together?

In any cases, I'll be keeping an eye on this topic.

Have a nice day everyone!

Well, for fun, I have the Path of Ascension module/world running in the background on my PC. It should show up on Gamespy, but I have no idea how the naming works. I'll try and have "EN World" somewhere in the title or the server name or something. Feel free to drop in. It's not a permanent thing though - just me playing around.

I think you'll need both expansion packs, but I'm not sure.

Hi!

If I weren't at work, I would have checked it out!

NWVault doesn't seem to have anything on Path of Ascension. But I did find some references to it on other websites. What I couldn't find, though, was if it required hak pack(s) to play? (I would assume that it does.)

Hope you have fun!
