Interplay and BioWare reach settlement
Neverwinter Nights to be published worldwide by Infogrames

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada – January 24th, 2002 – BioWare and Interplay have reached a settlement ending the dispute between the companies. Per the agreement, Neverwinter Nights, developed by BioWare, will be published by Infogrames worldwide subject to certain pre-existing Interplay licenses. In addition other matters have been resolved to both parties’ mutual satisfaction.

Added Herve Caen, President of Interplay: "We are very pleased with the outcome of this situation and we are looking forward to a successful and mutually beneficial relationship with Infogrames and BioWare on this and other titles."

good point . . . this game isn't really going to change the game, just make more of the game available on the computer . . .

the game will be alot of things, but isn't going to be the reason to stop having weekly games (or what-have-you) in favor of sitting at the computer.

I guess the serious dreams for this game is a few steps up from baldur's gate mixed with what everquest should have been, and a game that sports alot of user customization. (you'll be able to re-create BG with this game, and make it all yourself)

This is good news. Up until this announcement, I had agreed with Desslock (desslock.gamespot.com) That NWN might not ever see the light of day. Similar legal issues have tanked many a promising title in the past, especially with PC games, and particularly with ambitious RPGs.

If NWN pans out, I will buy it, and never think about Master Tools again. They are promising flexibility and customization to the point where I can make it into a compelling online game -going far beyond where I am limited by IRC and scripting in the here and now.

It certainly won't matter much to table-top gaming, but it will matter a LOT to online gamers like me (who have time and travel constraints, but still want to play).

It is good that they managed to resolve the Interplay issues and now have an international software publisher lined up. That should help with a quick distribution of the game when it is completed. I can't wait for it to be released!

I'm glad the issue's been resolved, I guess... but I don't really have high hopes for this game.

Given the overall make-up of the online gaming community, I have absolutely no desire to role-play with the general public, (Hell, wouldn't you really want the guy from the Dark Age of Camelot RP server who nevertheless calls his character Jeanluc Picard to drop by your server? Or maybe I can meet some of the wonderful people that killed and robbed me way back in UO again... Or some of the nice guys that tried to murder me in Diablo when I was fighting monsters... or all the nice FPS players who'll call you a cheating faggot the moment they loose...) and if I'm to play with people I already know, I might as well play pen-and-paper. So all I really want from NWN is a solid single-player mode.

On the other hand, I suppose if some of the more creative people from around here set up servers and were selective about who to ask to play, it could prove to be fun... but I'm not holding my breath.

I've been following NWN since nearly the beginning. And after a long, long wait, it seems like there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel. I can't wait.

I'm already signed up for a few online groups (including A Land Far Away, The Lands of Argyle, and The Vale of Lost Souls), but wouldn't at all mind adventuring with some folks around here.

Cool, I really hope NWN will meet the huge expectations! :)

As long as the game editor is as cool as they say and will be used as much as the one that came with starcraft, it probably will!

Bye
