NWN: Deviations from 3e.

In 3rd edition, I don't believe dragons (and some other creatures) can normally be sneaked attacked. Correct me if I am wrong.

If I might correct you then - dragons can be sneak attacked.

You can't sneak attack constructs, oozes, undead - types of creature with no discernable anatomy, no vital locations to strike. (my little list there may not be exclusive... but dragons can definitely be sneak attacked)

Cheers

Note that there's a qualifier on that. You can sneak attack a creature only if you can reach its vitals; see the PHB writeup on rogues. If you can't sneak attack dragons in NWN, it could be an attempt to simulate this restriction.

No prestige classes... *mutter*mutter*

Can you say "add-on" boys and girls? I bet in 3-6 months a $40.00 upgrade will allow this as well as some other tweeks people have mentions here. This will be a big attraction though.

Well the part that pisses one off is that you probably have to develop a new character so it can upgrade to those 'prestige classes'.

But I won't complain too much. I'm just glad that the game is out after so long, and looks like it does meet expectations. It's not perfect, but it's definitely an awesome product.

Just discovered this tonight: they changed the prereq for Weapon Specialization. Instead of requiring 4 fighter levels, you need only one level in fighter and a +4 BAB. Nasty. Grats to my Ranger 10/Fighter 1 :p

This is light-years better than what was done with 'Pool of Radiance'.

I was intially excited with Pool.

I accpeted its limitations until the end of the game, which IMO, is basically unbeatable.

NWN is a huge improvment and the toolset rocks!

A few more changes...

Taking Martial or Exotic Weapon Proficiency gives proficiency with ALL Martial or Exotic Weapons.

No Magic Weapon spells.

A Scythe is now an Exotic weapon for no apparent reason.

Searing Light will damage objects, but Flame Strike will not. Fireball and most of the arcane spells still work on objects. (In other words, if you're a cleric, Searing Light is your only "Chest opening" spell.)

On a side note: It's annoying that you have to go pick up your henchman if he dies. I can cast spells that raise the dead, but I can't bring back my henchman without a trip to town. That annoys me.

This is a little bugging, but are you talking single or multi player mode? in the single play game, you get that neat stone that lets you teleport back to the temple - it's not that bad to go collect him there, and then pay to return.

As for other changes:

You cannot pick which schools are denied to you when you specialize in a school of magic. Instead, you are simply assigned a school. (It really horked me off that evokers MUST pick conjuration - but then, with the focus of the game slightly changed, they had to assign these to schools where it would hurt.)
