NWN: Deviations from 3e.

Familiars can be easily resummoned when they die, and you can pick a new familiar every time you level up.

Also, wizards seem to be the most fully rounded character class.

Arcane spellcasting - Wizard.
Rogue abilities - Pixie familiar.
Melee fighting - Summoned dire creature.
Divine spellcasting - Cleric Hireling.

So as far as solo play goes, I suggest running a wizard or sorcerer...

Note that there's a qualifier on that. You can sneak attack a creature only if you can reach its vitals; see the PHB writeup on rogues. If you can't sneak attack dragons in NWN, it could be an attempt to simulate this restriction.

Excellent point. The true test would be whether they allow ranged sneak attacks against dragons within 30ft...

Things that really torqued me off. . .

1) Barbarian Rage is a full-round action, provoking an attack of opportunity? WHY? It removes any chance of spontaneously raging and escaping a crowd of ticked off peasants by tossing them aside.

2) Wizards MUST have a familiar. I don't like familiars, I don't want one.

Oh, and to the person who is upset that Dragons are impossible to sneak-attack, note that they have blindsight in all directions and threaten every square surrounding them in the real game (via tail sweeps, wing buffets, and a prehensile head.) So no, you can't sneak-attack dragons, except when they're asleep.

I'd have to agree with this. I never summoned a familiar in Baldur's Gate II. Well I did once, but that was only to see what they did. I wasn't impressed and never bothered again.

I haven't seen NWN yet, so will have to wait and see. I do like playing wizards, but the idea that a familiar is forced on you is troubling.

Unless you are etheral or otherwise invisible to blindsight

Actually, there's nothing that says you have to summon a familiar. It's just an option, in your quick bar like your basic spells. They are helpful for a wizard traveling without a party or henchmen however.

Or flanking them...

I would say that the blindsight means dragons can percieve and react to anything around them, whether they can see it or not. Essentially it works as a form of uncanny dodge for them, making them immune to sneak attacks, simply because you CAN'T make an attack on them unawares, which is how flanking would allow sneak attacks in the first place. Whether you agree or not doesn't matter in this discussion, though, because Bioware apparantly does.
