[NWN] Looks like the storms are past...

No BioWare makes the best games on the market I think. This is very good news. In fact, if the cards are played right I really think a game like NWN is going to be the future of where our hobby is headed.

You can not role-play in a game like Everquest (at least it is very hard) But NWN really seems to be very close to the heart of the game which most of us play around a table.

A smart move by BioWare, since Infogrames currently owns the exclusive electronics rights to Dungeons & Dragons IP.

BTW, I thought that it was Interplay -- not Infogrames -- that produces Baldur's Gate computer game series, as well as the Icewind Dale computer game.

Greetings

I believe RangerREG is right, interplay published all those game. I am quite pleased that the game will be able to go forward!

Yes, you're right. I'm in a bit in a tizzy from the news. Infogrammes did publish PoR2, UbiSoft designed it (well, SSI designed it, but then there were buyouts). And Interplay published the rest of those games, thorugh Black Isle or BioWare. My bad.

As if this wasn't the strategy from the get go? Think about it--Bioware was unhappy w/Interplay. Interplay has a limited license with D20 products (somthing like FR for 3 more years). Infrogames has the broad D20 license.

Actually this was the only way they could have published the game without creating a new license. Right?

Well, I dunno about "stratagy from the get-go". Infogrames only got the license in Decemeber 2000 (that was a rough month, remember?), and Interplay had the license to release the games that had been started before then. And Bio and Interplay only started growling at each other about 6 months ago.

But if you mean, this was the plan ever since Bio announced that they were taking Interplay to court, I would have to say most definitely.

To be specific, because I'm anal like that, Interplay Published the Infinity Engine games and UBI Soft published POR2.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor (POR2) was developed by Stormfront Studios, with a lot of turnover in the development team.

The Infinity Engine was created by Bioware who developed the Baldur's Gate series (BG1, BG:TotSC, BG2, BG2:ToB). Torment, Icewind Dale, ID: Heart of Winter, and ID:HoW: Trials of the Luremaster were developed by Black Isle Studios (owned by Interplay). All of the Infinity Engine games were published by Interplay.

So the important part to remember is that Bioware created the Infinity Engine which the good games were based on and they're the ones developing NN. So it doesn't matter who publishes it as long as they (Infogrammes in this case) don't interfere in the development. Considering Biowares track record so far why would they.

So in closing three companies have the rights currently to publish electroinc D&D games Infogrames, Interplay, and UBI Soft (depending on their contract). Hopefully Infogrames will use the new deal for NN to foster good relations with Bioware so we can get good D&D PC games for the next 20 years with no worries.

As always check http://desslock.gamespot.com/ if you want to know more about this or PC RPG's in general.

bah . . . this is good news, but what of my thread? (it comes with the ever-unique, never-boring poll!)

black isle (part of interplay) did the BG, planescape and Icewind Dale games. (just a technical note)

the new pool of radience game, i think was done by infogames, but it was quite bad. in most cases, people who bought that game would rather have had a computer virus.

i can't wait to play Nwn, it looks really good so far, and from the movies. i hope it is fun to play, and that they'll continue to support that product with an expansion pack which adds to the engine and what the game can do.
