[NWN] Morrus, I have serious problem with one of my Characters on the server... Help!

Well I hope casting continual flame on on item problem can be fixed. Its the easiest way to have light and not use a amulet/ring space for a light source that can be better utilized for a better item.

Also I JUST got that new weapon.. Come on, can we please have this restriction turned off? Or at the very least can I have a copy of my char so I can play it elsewhere, or be allowed to get in game long enough to save it to my hard drive?

But im hoping this can be fixed. I realy want to play Kell on this server. And I sure would like to be able to keep my new weapon(havent even hit anything with it yet).

Peace

Hmmm, I don't have the in-game spell description (but the Nerwinter Grimoire one), it seems to indicate:
This creates a magical flame that burns as bright as a torch until dispelled.

I added the emphasis on dispelled. That would indicate that maybe the item can be salvaged by trying a dispel magic (or in this case, a greater dispel magic). If the ILR can be turned on long enough so that you can connect to unequip it, I'm willing to give it a try.

IRL (For Morrus)

Morrus, I'd like to add few more technical details to possible solves for this item restriction problem. Sorta a shot in the dark, since I dont know how you have the server set up, or what scripts your running.

1. Might want to read this webpage, or not, it depends on your scripts: http://www.nwnlexicon.com/compiled/function.ipgetitemhasproperty.html

"IPGetItemHasProperty(object, itemproperty, int, int)"

Go to the site for the rest of the page...

2. Found these DM comments on the Bioware forums: http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=380646&forum=47&highlight=Item+Level\\\

Item Property Restrictions (New thread started Sept. 7th, 2004)

3. Various ILR scripts from DM's on the Bioware forums: http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=366546&forum=47&highlight=Item+Level\\\

Item Level Restriction (ILR) controlled by Builder not by Value (New thread started July 14, 2004)

4. Here's yet another thread of scripts, these pertaining to death (might be usefull later also): http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=371324&forum=47&highlight=ILR+problems

ILR DeathUnequip Scrip (New Thread started August 2, 2004)

5. In regards to PoA specifically, I found several referances to IRL issues on the Ancient Warriors site, however, no real solutions. Just in case you want to read it: http://www.ancientwarriors.org/forum

Perhaps a solution?

I spent quite some time on Bioware's forums again.
I found this old thread.

I don't really understand what it all means though. Not sure either if the invalid character bug they are refering to is the same as the one we have here.

I hope this can help.
I couldn't find anything else through Google...

Has there been any movement on this? I was just playing and I got booted in the middle of combat. When I tried to reconnect, I got this:

Invalid Character - Player login refused - Item equipped with an "Item Level" disallowed by server restrictions

I don't think I did anything unusual. My only character is a Cleric/Fighter/Rogue named "Ghostmoon".

Thanks for any help on this.

It seems this sort of thing has been a problem with this module in one form or another. I found this on a site which also talks about the thing that happens when you go into a certain canyon over a certain level. Im glad to see that our version already has the fix that keeps the level from dropping(thanks)... but a sign here would be a good idea still. Anyway it shows that there are additional instances of the chararcters not being able to log in due to lev restrictions on items.
There was a script in the mod we are currently running (Path of Ascension) in an area called Rift Canyon that was giving players a really hard time. The script was written to look at the characters level and if a character that entered that particular area was level 13 or above then they would get booted off the server and their level would be reset to 1. The players were not able to get back on because they had items equipped that were for levels 13 + and they were only level one and the server has level restriction on so the players were not able to get on. I went into the toolset and I took this script out so no one will have any more problems with losing their characters. If this mod was done better there would of at least been a sign post or something outside of this area that would warn the players that this area was only for those levels 12 and under. However I didn't think it was fair to leave such a script in without there being some kind of warning. Even then I feel it is a little bit drastic to take away a characters levels just because they went into an area that they were not suppose to. It all doesn't matter now of course because I took this script out so everyone can rest assured that they can now enter any area without getting all their levels taken away. If anyone finds anything else like this please post it in the forums.

Im still trying to find out how to change / alter/ eliminate or whatever the code so that me and everybody else who has / will have chars in the same situation can play their characters.

I will keep trying. Anybody else find out anything? I guess if i have to I will try finding the module and downloading it to look at the code. I would prefer not to have it though so I dont accidently spoil any surprises.

Ok Morrus, now other than changing the code...

If this module starts up the same way any other module does... You can select advanced options tab on the module start up and there is a check box there for ""item level restrictions"". If you uncheck that and start the module I and the others should be able to retrieve our characters. Then you can recheck if you want. But it might solve a lot of problems to leave it unchecked.

This is the easiest way to solve this problem now so we can play our characters again without waiting on another solution. As far as adding code to overlook the light spell(or whatever)... still not sure what to do about that.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Peace, Chaz

Actually, I think this is exactly what happened to me. My PC is 13th level and was adventuring in the Rifts Canyon area. Now, when I try and play him, it says he is 1st level. I hope this can be fixed, as there was no warning this would happen.

I dont think the canyon is taking away levels in this version. I and another player I know went in there after reaching lev 13 and got sucked into the vortex... It took my gold and put me in the fugue, but i didnt die and it left my levels intact. Not sure what happend to you.

Peace

I read many instances of ILR/Invalid Character that goes like this:

Character is level-drained.
Connection lost or server crash.
Character is now lower level and as such, may have items with ILR too high for his current level.
Character is now invalid.

Perhaps this is what happened to you Ghostmoon?
