Nyaricus' Called Shot Compendium

Nyaricus

First Post
Hey all, I know I haven't really been around in HR for over a half year - plus I'm kinda burned out from DMing right now, but using my nifty search feature, I've been doing my research on called shots (for my players, who have been asking for this system), and I figured that for me to share it with you all would be for the betterment of the community - so here it is. A vast list of every thread worth a gander which mentions called shots. Eventually, after seeing all there is to see on called shots, I plan to hammer out my own system - but all in time :)

A note on politeness:
Some of these threads are from 2002. Don't be a Thread Necromancer with the much older threads; it's generally considered rude (and the board vets know what I'm talking about here). This thread is meant to be a meeting place to discuss called shots anyway - so please discuss them here; if there's something which warrants attention that someone else has said, please post a link to said thread, followed by the quote. Thanks!

Ahh, called shots. I'll subscribe and see what comes of the discussion. I don't think they work well in a high hit point system like D&D, myself, but...

Edit: FWIW, I have used called shots before in my endless tinkering. I used them with regular hp and with vp/wp from SW (called shots happen when you take wound damage). It worked better with wound points than with hit points, but both were pretty clunky and added way too much complication to an already complicated d20 System ruleset.

I don't really know how they'll work with D&D, but my players are out for blood for them , so I figure I might as well do my research, in any case.

We'll see how things progress. I still have to go through most of these threads and see if there is anything of worth in them. There is plenty of stuff I need to wade through - and eventually develop a simple subsystem for them.

While it does end up complicating D&D, it's in a way in which my players want it complicated - and since I'm trying to get in touch moreso with what they want, maybe this is a good thing :)

Have you looked at Torn Asunder: Critical Hits, by Steven Creech, and Kevin Ruesch, published by Bastion Press.

It has a number of rules for various types of critical hits, called shots, critical fumbles, and such. It has new rules for Acupuncture, and Healing, including some druid based pharmacopoeia. New Armor, 3 classes (Marksmen, Spiritual Healer, and Apothecary), New Feats, and 6 monsters three templates, all dealing with this subject mater, and it is a gorgeous book to boot.

No, I have not (though I did see it mentioned in some of the the threads I skimmed out of the above list) but thank you for bringing the book up promptly; it'll definitely help those who are interested in called shots get more info on the subject.

I'll look into buying it ASAP :)
